It's a shame about lockdown - without that I'd have popped up to the auction, but a trip for a speculative private purchase of a classic car couldn't be justified as 'essential travel', no matter how perfect the grille and colour combo! Still, as a wise man once said, never worry about a car you didn't buy...

1967 ADO16 - Don't think I have ever come across one built for racing (with the exception of the odd banger / grass track car) - comes with FIA papers - requires some recommissioning - vehicle is currently in Germany - £7,800

1972 Austin 1300 GT - Previously stored - 50,000 miles - poorly detailed advertisement & the pics are not that much better - Difficult to state if its good for the money or a bodged mess without viewing it in the flesh - But it appears clean and well priced at £8,750

Coming up at Mathewsons in February. Looks like a bit of a belter and wonder what it will sell for. Probably the best one I have seen and remember rebuilding the auto box on one as a second year apprentice. Shame about the brake fluid damage below the reservoir.
Full program of the restoration coming later this year. Was bought by the Bangers & Cash production team who then had it restored and Bangers & Cash are now selling the finished car on their behalf.

A friend had one in the early 70's. She had it from her father who worked at Morris's and bought a new car every 2 years under the employee car scheme that allowed workers a large discount. He passed his old car on to her. Exactly the same as the one for sale. She hardly used it and it was always garaged but it still went rusty! I had one scary drive in it when I used it to pick her and her husband up from Gatwick airport. It was in the winter and a very cold day and my friends were returning from 2 weeks in the West Indies. Shortly after leaving Gatwick a half brick hit the windscreen, thrown up from a tipper truck. The screen shattered into a zillion pieces and but I managed to pull up safely. We still had 30 miles to go and now with a large hole in the screen, my friends must have felt frozen, I certainly was. I remember it felt quite quick compared to the worn out cars I was used to. She never really liked it and preferred the Morris 1000 I taught her to drive in that it replaced.

1963 Morris 1100 Mk1 - Stunning early example, 38,000 miles, Dove grey with red interior, Rebuilt engine & gearbox, Well detailed engine bay with all the hard work done - Dateless registration - Very realistically priced at £4,600 - private sale - I'd suggest that fer4l quickly finds room for this and adds it to his collection has you would be hard pressed to find one as genuinely nice / original for the money

1963 MG 1100 Mk1 - Rare ADO16 variant - recent engine rebuild - Looks clean but you cant see everything in the pics - looks like thick underseal on the front lower valance / front wings up to the bumper line & the seam for the rear bumper valance to the rear panel just under the boot aperture looks suspect - that said its well priced at £4,000 - leaves more than enough margin to do a little tidying

I doubt that it will sell at that money - its way over priced - he's been offering it privately to the market for £17,500 for several months now and its obviously not moved

1967 Austin 1100 Mk1 project - Scruffy but looks unmolested - would be a labour of love to restore it and the panels are not cheap - especially front wings & front panels - In the favourable colour of 'Connaught Green' - its for auction with a wide guide of £600 - £1500 at Mathewsons on Friday 4th Feb 2022
