The accidental 'non-project' purchase... no idea what I'm talking about? have a read of this thread and all will become clear
So the car in question
Which I won via online auction and collected exactly 25 years to the day after it was first registered
Oddly for me it appears to not need a great deal and is remarkably clean save for a couple of minor areas requiring attention. One of which was annoyingly partly my own doing as I offloaded it from the trailer
The engine bay is spotless and seems to need nothing
Alas the same can't be said for the rusty wheel nuts and the convertible hood which needs a good clean and some tlc in a couple of places. Both of which I shall try and do alongside prepping a few things for the MG BGT project.

Well as it turns out, all was not lost over the Easter weekend and so as the sun was shining it would've been rude not to
But first a spot of tlc on some of the 'niggles' I had, remember these
Well I dug out the cleaning gear and suffice to say it had an effect
Not sure what's going on with the pic and the left cover but they look much better! Weirdly the for sale ad stated that 'it will be valeted before collection' hmmm perhaps, just not very well it would seem.
Rusty nuts to be sorted next then
Car drove beautifully - smooth, effortless and no knocks, squeaks or rattles from anywhere in the cabin. Brakes felt good too, pulled up straight and true and was generally just a nice place to be. I can see me using this more than originally intended I think.

I must confess I was surprised about how much I like it, very smooth and refined but doesn't feel lacking either. Joys of the roads up here is that you can make 'progress' if you want to. I booted it out of a junction on one occasion (all in the name of science ) which elicited a telling off from the passenger seat so it shifts if you want it to
I've not driven a 500 for a long time so I'd suggest trying both if possible to see what suits/ your preference, they tend to be more sought after being the top model but I've heard many good things about this lump too. More than welcome to try this one if you're ever passing. One thing I would say is that they are definitely cruisers not dynamic racers, the 500 just gives that bit more shove if you want it.
Nice one - cruiser and not dynamic racer is definitely more the thing I'm after. The buyer for my LandCruiser dropped out yesterday. But before he did, my missus suggested I use the money and just buy a "nice" car. Seems my subliminal messages have been paying dividends.

With the '7 kicked out the workshop after its service, finally some tidying has begun of the bits that were niggling me.
Rusty bolts are off and ready for treatment
...and the car has learnt to hover
While the car is pretty clean to begin with, these things do like to rust for fun in certain places, so I'm going to take the opportunity to give the arches a good clean and add a few preventative measures.
The hood also needs some tlc as previously mentioned where its faded in a couple of spots
I have ordered up the cleaners, dye and waterproofer to get it looking new again
Also on the job list is to replace a couple of bits of inner arch trim that look to have seen some 'action' in the past... being as they are, well modified or missing
The inside is thankfully nice and clean, so bar a quick wipe and leather treatment I'm going to be leaving alone
The speaker grills now look much more in keeping with the rest too
what products do you have in mind for the roof? i re-coloured and proofed swmbo's A4 cab last year (dark blue too) with the renovo kit and was only really moderately pleased with it. the main issue was , being a larger roof , was getting the colour on quick enough to avoid the "join" down the centre drying before coating the other side , which left a slightly different texture and darker colour in places when finished. make sure you mask up and sheet down everything as the colour coat will go everywhere. i would also use a low tack tape as , really annoyingly , i managed to remove small pieces of the face of the roof to screen top rubber seal with "ordinary" masking tape , even though it was only on a couple of hours.

Good advice.
Have exactly the same stuff as already have a couple of bits in hand previously bought for the TF, but am intending to utilise the workshop as a more controlled environment rather than apply outdoors.
Agree it's messy if you're a bit wayward, have some car wrap already so that will be being put to good use as well as some of the low tack masking tape left over from my detailing days. Should be fun!
I couldn't believe how quickly the solids settled out in the pot , i found i had to continually stir as i went. Judged it well though , there literally wasn't a brush full left by the time i finished.
I really struggle to get the really deeply ingrained algae out from deep within the weave of the fabric. Fortunately it only shows in certain light.
