Right first things first, why an MG... well I've essentially grown up hearing about them, my aunt had a B GT, uncles on both sides of the family had MGs of varying guises and they are one of the quintessentially English sports cars from an era of car manufacture I love. Throw in the need for it to be a relatively cheap 1st classic (I look back fondly on this notion), with spares a plenty and loads of information about how to do things - and it was a bit of a no-brainer for me.
What actually happened... I bought a project 1969 MG, and then bought another project MG (1975 car), got given another project (see other Celica thread) and got distracted by other joint projects with my other half (not all are automotive but most are) - you can see why I have the username I do...
Anyway, just so we're clear, this thread is for the 1975 car, which having learnt a great deal about (see loads of information about comment above), researched all the potential ways of doing things and specced it to what I'd love to build is now what I'm putting into practice... well sort of. I've thrown the book away on a couple of things...
*** Purists look away now ***
The objective is to build something that for all intents and purposes looks like a normal B GT, unless you know... and if you do, you'll spot the subtle differences. Some of which I will reveal as we tick along, others I may just leave for you to figure out.
So back to the beginning and how the car was purchased
For not a lot of money from a garage who had just told me that my other MG was uneconomical to repair . So why did I want, errr interesting coloured, and somewhat fat-lipped version? look again at the door gaps on the above picture.
41k from new, sat for a number of years due to clutch failure and from what I could see as solid as I could possibly find for the money.
Next came the tear down...
