We have had quite a few visitors lately, all kept at arms length and cleaned with alcohol internally, all went home with pots full of sloes which we seem to have tons of this year, the perfect excuse to crack on and get some gin soaking! there was the remains of an odd rum spirit lurking at the back of the cupboard so that got some as well all in the name of science!
Got a stash of Damsons in the freezer so might try some of those as well!
we know someone that will be all over this like a rash!
Yep - nothing like a drop of the self flavoured spirit - not quite up to sampling mine currently until I return to full health but probably after this weekend I'll be giving it a go - loads of local blackthorn hedges down the footpath from my place that yield all I need to make up a few batches - Mrs GN baked a few cakes with the strained sloes last time I did a batch and said cakes went down to much fanfare
So on with the Damson gin then, this may take a bit of pinkey poking which may take some time!
Do you also freeze them and then roll them on the spikey side of a grater, to perforate the skins and let the goodness out?
They were all frozen for a bit but the sloes got a bit of a squish just to break the skins, I do leave some whole though, with the damsons they are a lot softer and broke open when inserted into the bottles, time will tell but its taking on a nice colour already!
Got a little road trip from dreary Lincolnshire to dull Bedfordshire planned for tomorrow, catching up with the folks, a few errands and an Astra van parcel for johnthesparky to save the couriers jumping all over it!!

Attempting to guess at what it is - possibly a rear window guard for the tailgate ?
Another job ticked off the list, we had and old trailer thing hanging about and a spare IBC, a few screws later we have the ideal water carrier, now winters coming and the animals are a bit further from the water it should make it easier, not so much sun so the water should last ok, not sure about frost yet!
Johns van certainly came out well, looks good with the sign writing on now as well
One of these would be the ideal size for you Chris!
On the radar along with HA Van, Chevanne, Mk1 Astra van, Rover Commerace, Metro, Marina, Ital, Meastro etc - NOTHING FORD - may consider something Euro but the VW prices are crazy - nothing hanging - needs to be reasonably solid - no major restro - obviously don't mind something that would require a paint job / accident damaged etc - I'm not in a hurry & something will turn up once I stop looking
Apologies but Ford UK stuck me over a barrel wholesale and used a 10' bargepole supplied by their cooperate legal team when I purchased a new vehicle from them in 2002 - it got sold with 6 months of ownership and I vowed that the Ford experience would never enter my life again - along with a small list of other cooperate establishments that's wronged me over the years - see us Yorkshireites have long memories
