What do you do if you already have loads of old rusty stuff? well of course you buy more!!! we have about 40ton of stone and mud to move a round this week and we couldnt find anything to hire so using man logic this was the best option!
It needs a bit of work but all the important bits are sound like the engine and hydraulics, its 4 wheel drive and articulated in the centre for steering, jobs to do are sort an exhaust as its rather noisy and some sort of brakes! made an exhaust out of stuff in stock, didnt get any pictures of the brakes but the hydraulic side is going to take a bit of work so I just rebuilt the handbrake/propshaft brake which will do, were nice and flat so you dont get a lot of speed up!

I bet that silencer feels way manlier than if it'd been fitted on a 1300 Astra!
Where's the pic of it buried into the side of the static van?
"Knew I should'a done the brakes"
Nothing that exciting happened, thankfully!
The mighty 1300 Astra exhaust performed its duty perfectly, the dumper shifted tons of stuff with ease filling in a big hole that we didnt need!
A bit of scrachting around got us part way done, 20 ton of supposed blue limestone on top of a membrane for the base and a bit of irregular shingle over the top has tidied it up no end, need to go further but it might have to wait till the finances recover
The dumper has performed well and as usual it needs stuff doing to it, struggling to find out what model it is but pretty sure its a Winget, the engine is also just as hard to identify but pretty sure its a Lister/Petter with 3 cylinders, one problem was the drive belt and as these are air cooled its pretty important for the cooling fan not so much the dynamo as it only uses lectric to start I have about 300 belts of various sizes and style in stock but could only find one that when jammed on works but not ideal, yep thats a toothed belt on multi vee pulley!! After a bit of research it turns out its a PJ style belt with a very small pitch of 2.34mm and the local tractor shop got me one for a reasonable £15.00
Not fitted it yet as I cant feel my fingers at present!
E for elasticated. Washer motors now on fixed mounts rather than pivoting, so stretch belts are now the norm.
Chris.
Thats interesting, as you seem to be clued up on the belts how much stretch do you think they have? It may be an advantage having a bit of stretch or in your opinion do you think it would turn the fan and dynamo without flying off?

It's about 15%, although some of them feel like a violin string when first fitted. They do "give" slightly over time. Shouldn't fly off. Washer drum pulleys aren't grooved (although the motor one is) and the belt has to turn 70/80lbs dead weight, then run it up to anything up to 1600 rpm.
Thats most of the muddy bit done now, enough for this year anyway, the ground levels had been built up over the years so it was all a bit high and the dumper certainly made life easier shifting the stuff! Just got to cut the inspection chamber down now the levels are sorted In total that was 42 ton of stone and 7 ton of shingle, at least it will be a bit more pleasant for the visitors were not getting!
Got this reproduction tin sign for xmas from good friend, will go nicely on the store room door Unless your a Vauxhall/Bedford enthusiast it probably wont mean a lot but its a copy of the packing that most of the spares came in from the 1960s to early 70s which meant when trawling around autojumbles your eyes were always on the look out for bits in this type of packing!
Just for 07lilredwagon I thought I best post up the quantity of snow so far, its getting quite dangerous making the 40 foot commute to the store/barn so im only filling my cup up 3/4 to save spillage
Its a bit bleaker further down the patch but Mrs pig isnt complaining
Well that was a good start to the week, Mrs GTviva and pregnant dogy forced of the road by an artic, w*nker! They are all ok we think but I doubt the Troopers going to survive
