Haha, that sounds soooo familiar! I too did not have a cement mixer to hand (oddly) and my arms sure felt the effort they had to put in. Result was excellent though. Great product!
Obvs one to add to the group purchase list - currently therefore a steam jetwasher, a 6x6 Pinzgauer, and a cement mixer - any advances?!
johnnybravo loaned a mixer to someone on another forum - so this may yield possibilities
Cement mixers are such a better option than waggling arms about for 5 mins, you can fill the the tank with a small bag of sharp gravel, fill up with water and strap inside a cement mixer, leave running for an hour or two, its sooo much less painless than flapping arms.

Maybe we recover the one of JB's and make an adaptor plate to fasten fuel tanks to - then it can be offered within a forum toolshed - I think that this may have legs but would like to know of what others think - I'm readily open to the idea of sharing bits of kit where we can to help each other out - storage & logistics maybe an issue to some though - I'll discuss with the BRM team and look at the feasibility
Well, given the fact that someone who shall remain nameless decided a half brick in the drum was a better option than the supplied 5 litres of brick acid, I would have no qualms to modify the drum
Already modified by the sound of it. I can see the colour drain out of our poor fitters face back in the day when i used to pull 5/3 site mixers back from hire damn near full of set concrete!

It's been a while on this one but I've had a bit of a result on the fixings front locally which is a bit exciting (sad I know)
Meaning as soon as the shell is here I can look at mounting it to the spit and cracking on with the rest of the welding. It's been far too long and I'm rather looking forward to it.
With every up however there is a bit of a down and in this case it's that I really must go on a global parts hunt again as some of what came back from the treatment process was sadly worse than anticipated
Apologies, just spotted this. It's a CJ auto's one. I picked it up second hand from mpr as was surplus to requirements. The current equivalent is this one.
It needs a good clean and a bit of grease in a couple of places but otherwise should be good to be used in anger. Which leads me neatly to...

So while Chris is getting properly stuck in to the MG, I thought I'd better progress a few things for the Celica now it's finally here.
Those of you will have spotted in the background of the above pic the fuel tank which was getting the three stage POR 15 tank treatment. I actually ended up repeating stage one once more (still no cement mixer so my arms got yet another work out) and then doing two hits of the rust inhibitor/neutraliser before giving everything a thorough rinse and dry using the grumpynorthener technique
A bit hard to make out in this pic but it was steaming beautifully by the end
Last stage will be to apply the sealant but as that needs regular attention which the day job might prevent I'll do that at the weekend instead.
I've also been having a bit of a think, and as mentioned elsewhere had a bit of a swap around, logic being that as the Celica is likely to be of a more long-term project, it made little sense for that to be in the way of other projects that are likely to come in and out, the MG being one such example.
end result, the shelving was moved, benches relocated and a few parts swapped around so the shell could get moved to the far end ready for attaching to the rotisserie
Much better.
I've just ordered some metal so I can build the mounting bracketry which will locate onto the front and rear bumper mounts, once fabricated we should be good to crack on... he says. Which is where it will get interesting once more, as well, there's still a fair bit to be getting on with...
Have a gallery of just a few of the areas requiring some tlc
Thankfully my previous repairs mean the floors are now structurally sound and just need tidying from the underside

Small amount of sorting/play time last night to go digging in my pile of rusty Celica spares
The aim was to fetch out the spare roof so I can use it as a rough template for the pieces I need to repair as shown above, sods law I'd buried it well but we got there eventually
It's a bit rough in places but should work well enough for the areas that I need to template from once I've cleaned back the bonding
Any advice/tips/pointers always appreciated, and before you say it, no I can't cut bits out of it as I've already sold it
You could cover the areas with wide masking tape, mark all the angles/corners/swages/measurements etc to get you started, dont use metal thats too thick and just practice, im sure the 1st one wont come out correct or even the second!

Whilst its nice to form repair sections out of one piece of steel sheet sometimes the complex shape of the section can very much work against you and without having all the right kit such as presses, dies & formers it can be very difficult - So don't beat yourself up if you have to make the repair from several sections - take your time - don't attempt to over dress the welds or over thin the repair sections with the grinder and if you cant achieve the full profile that you would like - I can always come over at some stage and dress the areas in body solder for you - or should that be I can come and you give a few lessons then go down the pub whilst you finish the rest of the repair areas

Thanks for the pointers gents. Had some spare time this afternoon so had a play
Bit of CAD combined with the other roof as a template worked well. This is what I needed to try and replicate, bit of a tricky step section so two pieces was the right approach
A couple of attempts were required but think the end result will work with a spot of profiling.
Just needs a tidy then welding, it's been a while so some setting up of the Mig and practice might be in order first.
Although Chris if you did still want to come and give some lessons on body solder and then we both go down the pub I'm not going to say no 😉

Bit of playtime last night so a slight bit of progress.
Plates all drilled
and box section cut into four short lengths
Mocked up the positioning
ready for the hot metal stick to do its thing. Will tack them in place in situ before removing for welding fully.
Then it's onto the rear mounts which I still need to figure out, but the intention is to use the same approach in utilising the bumper mounts, I just need to make allowance for the curve of the rear panel

Made a small bit of progress on Sat morning before getting distracted on other jobs over the weekend.
Front arms got welded together
I then moved onto the rears which took a bit more effort in lining up, so I could tack them in situ
Happy with that, I then removed them to continue welding, which gave me this little set
I just need to finish the seams then will drill and add some captive nuts and bolts for locking the box sections in position once on the rotisserie arms. However I need to order the latter in as I seemingly have run out just at the opportune time - always the way
