and the packing continues. Actually we are very happy with the state of play - feels like we are (finally) ahead of the game. Finished the garage today and am almost finished the basement - my two big commitments
The last time the garage was this clean was the day before we moved in in 2009. (and the Vauxhall is filled! <filled> with parts)
and it is out of the shop - first time fully since 2011. My friend Mark lives a mere 2km away and offered his garage for a month's storage (Interestingly we had got to know one another on another forum and when we moved to Toronto in 2009 to my great delight was a very close neighbour)
At any rate, how do you get the car from A to B - call the Canadian Automobile Association of course. Easy peasy and tucked into a corner for a month or so. Movers come monday for the rest of the move. Yikes!
And I am done holding my breath. Truck came on Monday for the last of the stuff. Just finishing cleaning the house and the lawyer calls and says the buyers have requested a 7 day extension on this closing. Holy cr*p. This is not at all normal in the Canadian real Estate world. What seems to have happened is that we recently had an interest rate increase (again) - bank did an appraisal (without entering the house!) and lowered the value. (yikes)
anyways 48 sleepless hours later all closed and the money is in the bank. Now to rest until we get the new place at the end of the month,
The GT doesnt look far off now the engine/box is in? I bet the month is going to drag sitting around twiddling your thumbs waiting for the new place!
Closer than I think (I think) I just need to crack on and do it.
Actually the month is already seeming to slip out of our grasp. There are a few work obligations - which means we aren't completely focused on holiday but mostly because we are so staggeringly tired that all we want to do is rest. It has been a bonkers three years due largely to Covid and then having a supplemental job anyway and then having to pick up some covid related activities - so, not an exageration to say that Mrs JP and I have been working 3-4 jobs between us.
As well the move has been a sh*t show in many ways. Love the new house, glad the old one sold (and it seems to be worth less already than what was paid) but, our agents were idiots, another agent we were working with (whom we really really liked and respected) lost her mind at the last minute (Warren Buffet says it takes a lifetime to build a reputation and five minutes to lose it - boy was he right) And keeping the house clean and a bit of family drama to spice things up. Trust me I am more than happy to sit with a whisky and watch the world go by.
Am certainly looking forward to it but, forced rest ain't the worst thing just now either.

Plenty of time on his hands then for JP to start composing a new workshop thread for the forum
Funny you should say that. All my tools went but my workbench did not. Mostly I was too cheap to pay for it, but, want to think things through a bit as well. I suspect there will be many youtube videos in my future. (all suggestions welcome by the way)
I imagine this will be my last shop and on the one hand I want to get it right and on the other don't want to over invest. So, for instance, it is crying out for a hoist but, realistically after the Vauxhall there is likely only one more restoration - and that is the Austin 7 so I can pick it up and move it myself . I might consider a mid-rise lift but, mostly want an organized place where tools fall nicely to hand.

I dont think any house move is easy or simple, once your in and settled all the grief and pain will be forgotten!
Time for an update. Last week Wednesday was the day.
We had been staying at our church's denominational retreat centre for the month of August. Lovely little one bedroom unit with AC.
Wednesday the house closed so we got the last of our gear packed up and ready to go.
The route was 267km long (166 miles)
All this is 401/407 - main highway so 60 mph speed limit. Original plan was to cross over Toronto and and then hit a secondary highway but Ms Triss ran rock solid and given that Mrs JP had the cats, one of which literally yowled the whole way I decided to just stick to the highway the whole way.
Since handling your cell phone while driving is strictly verboden I could only sneak a couple of rubbish pics.
The Big Apple, local landmark and all things apple store
Crossing the Murray Canal into Prince Edward County. The canal is what made the county properly an island. Fun fact, the community there is called Carrying Place named because of the Aboriginal use of the area as a portage since time immemorial.
And finally we arrived safely
An hour or so later we got the keys and got into the house. Parked the car, dropped off the cats and went to my brothers house three minutes up the road.
Oh and once again gratuitous garage shot, (midget for scale )
and the shop
Thursday was cleaning and shopping in preparation for this on Friday
(note to self: we have too much cra*p)
At any rate, time to unpack. Mrs JP is the daughter of a mover and she rocks organization (yes including me )
So by Saturday we had this
and this
and even this
and yes, waking up to those windows is every bit as wonderful as you might imagine.
Unfortunately we are now (in September!) in the midst of a brutal heat wave and the garage is HOT! so, it still looks like this
That's it for now. Will keep you posted as I have time.

Dear Mr & Mrs JP, Happy New Home - Glad you got sorted in the end and the property looks made for you - May you spend many happy years there whilst praying you don't have any idiot neighbours within a miles radius of you (Unlike myself)

No neighbour on the one side and on the other a very nice fellow - drove by the other day and he was being visited by a fellow with a lovely bay window VW van - so, a car fan.
Looks like a fabulous home and no doubt cost you the price of a 2 bed maisonette in the UK!
House prices in Canada are pretty ridiculous as well. Canadian house prices are the most overheated of any G7 nation. We were fortunate to be leaving Toronto for the country but it weren't cheap
A bit of an update. We are mostly unpacked though the garage continues to be a disaster. I may have mentioned that Mrs JP and I retire at the end of the year and suddenly everybody needs to see me in the next three months. At any rate it was time to get the Viva to its new home. Got to my firend's house and called CAA. Firt truck came and wasn't a flatbed, so waited for the correct one. the level of CAA coverage we has offers 200km tows - the new house was 211 km away. Driver was about to write up the invoice when I handed him a $100 bill and asked if that would cover it - 'why yes sir' as all hesitation about the tow disappeared. (there was quite a bit of sucking of teeth about the missing door glass and the stuff in the car) but, all gone!
I had a meeting to go to so Mrs JP received the car, said the fellow took amazing care unloading and now she resides in her new home waiting for me to find the energy and the parts to get back to work.
BTW I must say that $100 tip was some of the best money I have spent this move - not too long ago I would have fretted and fussed and tried to figure out how to get the car here on the cheap - thie was a pretty cheap and totally no fuss endeavour.
the garage remains a hot mess - and will be for some time. Between painting the house, work, and some minor surgery on my left hand (releasing the tendon on a trigger finger). The good news is that my son was in town for a week so we could hang the canoe and move the Vauxhall. baby steps
