A little while ago a couple of friends and I were given this gem:
The good news:
The engine turns over (just).
The car had a new front subframe at some point in the not-too-distant past.
It is now somewhere dry!
The bad news:
Rust
Rust
Rust
For context:
The front floor panels are completely rotten, both sills need patching, the rear suspension towers are going, the boot is full of holes... The list goes on. We're making (slow) progress with stripping the car down, continuously hampered by the fact that every single bolt seems to be seized, and looking longingly over at boxes of new engine parts that we won't be able to fit until the bodywork is sorted.
We'll definitely be asking for advice (and sharing updates!) a lot over the next few months - hopefully we manage to restore the car to its former glory!
As I've said elsewhere (and thank you for the pointer to start a thread!) the first thing that we're a little lost on is whether or not any replacement panels are available for these Peugeots - we know we've got a lot of welding ahead of us but anything that we can source would make life a lot easier!

That's a pretty rare car today - back in the day I worked for a Peugeot dealer when these were new - not had anything to do with them for a few decades though now - I have a contact that has quite a decent collection of French estate cars (Simca / Citroens / Peugeot) I'll see if he has any contacts for panels & parts

Suppliers list as best I can remember off the top of my head as currently jetlagged in Australia for 5 weeks and my 304 scribblings book is at home but I think I have covered enough to get you started. Will Edit to add more as and when I remember.
www.serie04.com/fr/ All sorts of parts including new body panels. Sometimes used panels but best to email and ask about them.
Ebay UK Also look on Ebay France, Spain, Italy etc. I found a headlamp for mine in Italy.
www.boletus-satanas.org/bb/index.php?sid=4320a7180b1bb13f35537c11551c73e6 Recommend you join this French Forum. Lots of information, very friendly and helpful. I found rear struts for mine but the seller would not post to the UK. When I had a rant on that forum a helpful French man offered to buy them for me and post them on. I paid him by Paypal.
Darius Bunch in the UK has various used parts. I will PM you his phone number as don't want to put that on here.
www.leboncoin.fr/ A sort of French Ebay type of thing. Constant supply of all sorts of parts but you need to search every day as some parts get snapped up quickly. Also find reluctance to post to the UK but I have found lots of parts on there.
One thing you will not find is floor panels and sills. (Might be lucky and find sills) Easy enough to get sills folded from your measurements by a fabrication shop which is what I did. Floor panels I made, details are on my 304 cabriolet thread.
Before you do anything else don't be a dik like me and start without adequately bracing the shell or the panel gaps will be all over the place. Buy some 25mm box steel and weld it up solid first then start cutting panels out. The bracing can be cut out later. Good luck the keep your thread going. You will get plenty of advice and encouragement on here.

Thank you SO much - really appreciate all of this! Hope you had a safe flight & are having a great time in Australia so far!

This is excellent, many would shy away from such a challenge but good to see you are going to tackle it.
As mentioned, all the bodywork looks doable (I have/am dealing with similar!), time to play monopoly and buy all you can afford parts wise (it definitely helps when bartering on other bits in time too), just don't forget to enjoy the journey!

Thanks! There was a moment when we almost did walk away from it but we couldn't quite resist... We're definitely looking forward to starting to be able to mend holes rather than just finding more of them, though! 100% - trying to slow down and document as much of it as possible too, sure it'll be nice to be able to look back on what it looks like now when it's properly running again (fingers crossed...)!
