This ever popular show returns for its 8th year to the NEC - staged over the 3 days of Friday to Sunday

A very different event to the shiny classic car / my car is better than yours type shows with active live restoration work being undertaken on numerous club stands - along with live stage events / motoring celebrities / supplier stands / live working & 'How To' demonstrations / classic car auction / club awards / dream rides / autojumble / barn finds etc

Having supported this event from day one the Jowett team will be attendance in Hall 5 stand number 170 (Adjacent to the Dream Rides arena) - This year with a very special & highly active working stand display - Its our club centenary year and we are officially the worlds oldest one make car club - but its not all about us - There is so much more happening at this event - by all means come and say hello should you pay a visit

Ok - A week to go and I'm starting gathering things together that need to go on the stand including vehicles - but a lot to sort yet - It will be the Jowett Car Clubs most ambitious stand to date with 3 live working projects - along with a recent fully restored car

Just a small selection of some of my own kit - there's whole load more to gather together yet and load - plus 4 vehicles to trailer up to the NEC in a very small time window - Planning a visit - come and see us & introduce yourselves - We are in Hall 5 Stand 170 - just opposite the dream rides arena

I would love to go but having gone to Australia for 5 weeks on my own, and still recovering financially from that, I am having to take "her indoors" to Tenerife for 3 weeks in May. Just haven't got the cash for anything at present. Maybe next year but needs to be for 2 days I think.

Well that was a long day

But that's the first 2 delivered to a overnight storage facility (fellow members yard) on the outskirts of Coventry (15 mins from the NEC)

Then the handheld remote fob for the winch packed in as I was unloading the second one - this is near disaster for me as I have one to load in the morning at home then deliver into the exhibition halls - then these 2 to come & collect and deliver into the halls before heading home and loading the last one for Thursday mornings final run in

Took the remote apart when I got home and it was just a wire off the battery terminal - now soldered back on and working

I've also loaded the Range Rover with all the tools & equipment - just have to load the Bradford van in the morning on to the trailer and we can go again

Bloody winch - was fine loading this morning & ok for the other 2 that I shuttled in from the overnight stay but loading tonight with the last one and the car lift was total pain - Hounding it down with rain too - once I get the show out of the way said winch will be confined to scrap pile!

Bradford van loaded & ready to go this morning

But had to travel out to the edge of the Cotswolds to collect the clubs display boards

Off loaded the Bradford along with a lot my kit

The went & collected the Long 4

Then one of the Javelins - now back home & loaded with the last one ready to head back in the morning

Now the Range Rover key fob has come out in sympathy for the winch and I cant get into the car this morning

All loaded but cant go anywhere - there is a default hidden key access but that doesn't bypass the immobiliser - so I'm stuck at home awaiting for the AA to turn up - of all days - I should have been at the NEC by now

Better start thinking about a plan B - just in case

Same key as on my disco 3, if you can split the case open, the battery contacts often crack where they meet the circuit board, especially if the key has had a life, been dropped etc.

It's a soldered in battery and I've had to use the pcb sans case on it's own before now, holding the battery on to it to make contact to get in the car, mine also did a stint taped up with electrical tape to hold the battery down... I know, I know

As a result I've recently just bought some replacement batteries and resoldered both keys for mine. Not for now but if you need a good place to get a new key coded etc. too then I have details of someone.

What on earth were JLR thinking? It can only have been a profit making plan to drive owners into the arms of dealers when the batteries fail? I get about 3 years from my VW fob, when it fails it slides open and takes button battery I can get in Sainsbury's!

AA - called at 07:30 - ETA 08:45 then bumped to 09:30 then bumped to 11:35 - lost patience with them at 09:45 and bless Mrs GN who located a locally based indy / Ex main dealer LR specialist that I have never heard of - some down the phone tech advice had it started & running before 10:00 - got to the NEC a little after 12:00 hours then slogged to get unloaded and the stand built - In my absence the members of the team that had arrived before me cracked on and got the green room / store built which is basically modular display boards - then made a start on the Javelin whilst I got the rest of the stand sorted - just a few finishing touches in the morning before the show opens and we are good to go
