Our timed practice laps were late Saturday afternoon
A good out lap and second lap was achieved before the car slowed and entered the pits
Damage created by something thrown wayward from under the bonnet looked ominous along with reports from Richard of a severe engine vibration
Turned out to being a sheared fan blade which put the fan drive shaft into compete unbalance with the rest of the blade & mounting entering a phase of self destruction
The blades had bounced off various underbody & engine components and missed the radiator completely but other than the fan & mounting they appeared to be no damage that without our intervention would stop the car from running on Sunday in our scheduled race as we had achieved a lap time that placed us on the grid on the second lap of practice
Some lash up race repairs were therefore made - personally I trust the original Jowett factory water pumps has far as I can throw them and I was all set for heading home (a little over an hour away) where I had a new water pump sat on the shelf - these are a reworked pump supplied by club member whom is a retired engineer - these pumps are of a much better quality / pump capacity - I was overruled by our chief engineer who thought that the current repair was sufficient to complete the race meeting - There is a electric fan installed behind the radiator that was deemed sufficient to do the business so we live another day
Other race cars were not that fortunate and were returned to the paddock in many pieces
Further wonderings through the pits and the Gordon Murray Design team had several models of the T50 on display
Packed with technology
Apparently £2.2 million if you would like to place your order
And possibly only as a safeguard for show purposes but I would have expected a better thought out solution from a cutting edge automotive design team than gaffa tape for protecting the battery terminals More later
