Who puts ball joints in the hub and the taper in the wishbone? Same stupid idea with the tierod ends, socket on the rack, ball joint in the hub. Whole carrier made on the cheap from pressed sardine cans. Glad I didn’t pay for it! I won’t be using this, into the skip you go 🤣🤣
Crazy Germans 🤣
Fair play to the welsh guys though - you obviously sold the Apes cheap!

indeed and, good to be reminded that there are good and generous people out there - especially these days.

They went for a fair price. He was well happy because he knew the one had a V5 in my name but he didn’t realise I had the nova certificate for the green one as well. I got a better price selling everything off separately than a complete project. He is building two standard ones

That looks familiar on many fronts 😆
It's tradition that you have to somehow leave a mark on the trailer, last time it was the forklift but I thought I'd sussed it with the checkerplating... foiled again! 🤣
Good fun today and loving the plans. Now if only I were nearer... 😉

Not as big a mark as your signature on the plastic table at Goodwood a couple of years back, when you decided coffee was in order 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for all your help,Sam. Without you , this project would have been a complete non starter..👍

Ah - That little project - I was only thinking the other day that I hope it doesn't just get cast aside & mothballed now that its previous owner had purchased a new toy
My old Van, Im sure I will miss it, but I have/had fallen out of love with it, I know Johnny had been dribbling over it every time he saw it, and I really need to move it on and get something that suited Me, Jen, and Dog, Its gone to a good home, and I know Jonny will move it on with the aid of fresh eyes, Im looking forward to seeing updates,

So, what are the plans you may ask? Keeping it pretty much in the style in which the previous owner built it. It came sans engine and gearbox, which was a mutual decision. One of the biggest issues it has is bump steer. No disrespect for Ian having put the steering rack in, these A35’s are notorious for it should you convert to a steering rack. So a lot of messing around to see what can be done. That was the idea behind getting the rotten front end from Sam, I can use that to see if I can sort it out. Given the rather unorthodox engine I plan to fit, I think I might be able to solve the issue with a different rack and mounting it lower down, an option Ian didn’t really have with his chosen engine and gearbox.
Currently got a mate of mine in NewZealand looking for one of these for me, it might just work in getting the rack down without moving it forward. 😊 Lots of other research to be getting on with in the meantime 😊

JB - Are you wanting the create a greater angle on the steering column through a transfer angle box or is the Hi Ace component in the above pic a physical steering box that operates via drag links & arms ?
I need to get the rack closer to the ground but given it’s a piss Willy little thing, there isn’t space for another u joint. I cannot go further forward, hence the angle drive box. It also reverses rotation, so the ultra short Smart car rack will work without going to a LHD rack turned upside down . It’s the most compact way of getting the steering column turned 90 degrees
Will bending the steering arms help?, thats exactly where I was going go, somewhere I have a chart for correcting bump, but retiring took away the access to oxyacetylene, there are also different steering arms, a35s, spridgets too,

You bend the arms and you shorten them, fixing one problem and creating another. Much better option is to get the rack in the right place.
