WELL, somehow I have managed to find a 75 Toledo local to me for not an awful lot of money, bodywork is on the good to very good scale, although I know I will be doing some work, the history of the car has somewhat surprised me, built in the 2000s by a well know Toledo Fiddler, its been a feature car in 2 different magazines, Classic Triumph and The other place, Owned by the chairman of the Sprint owners club for a few years, and done a few owners extra I have yet to find out about. Spec sort of reads Its been fitted with a C20XE red top, (Not Coscast) 45dcoe Webers Stage 1 cams, 193bhp, MBE Management, 4 branch, 5 speed Getrag box, Dolly Sprint axle, Gaz ajustables all round, "BIG" brake kit, which will be reviewed. Sprint wheels Stockish interior, goes like a scalded cat,
Obvious Jobs theres a bit of rust showing on the rear 3/4 Get the carbs rebuilt and change the rubber fuel line, Have a look at the wobbly gear shift, Tidy the engine bay, possibly move the battery to the boot,

Nice - Looks like Triumph 'Pageant Blue' - No idea what a C20XE engine is but I'll assume its Vauxhall as you mentioned red top - that said Honda & Ferrari had a habit of red topping their engines but I doubt if its either of these - More pics when you get a min please

The CX20 is a 2 Litre twin cam.
20XE is a 2 litre twin cam 16v, the C designation refers to catalyst, which I and fairly certain the Toledo dosn't have one, but the vauxhall donor probably did,

In that case the fact that its MOT exempt is a blessing but unsure if testers are that much on the ball of spotting the fact that it's a catalyst designated engine in a non-catalyst car - unsure of where the compliance factor lies - personally it wouldn't bother me in the slightest providing the rest of the car was up to dealing the upgraded power output and it very much sounds like it is
Nice, early 2.0XEs didnt have cats, think the engine was 1st used in the Astra MK2 GTE in about 1988/89 so well before cats were a requirement, they went through a couple of changes from manual to auto timing belt tensioner and the belt tooth profile changed as well which can help date the engine, have you got a rolling road or dyno print out as I would be surprised if its making 193BHP with those cams and carbs
It’s a nice solid base having seen it. 😊. Some aspects of the conversion look Edwardian in their style of manufacture, but I am sure Ian will remake those parts properly. At least pretty much everything it needs to have done to it,is down to personal choice and improvements. Personally I think the horsepower claims are complete BS… no way that engine gets anywhere near that figure with the headers and exhaust that is on there… Anybody got a tame rolling road operator in the South East? I would love to see the figure. My guess would be around 125hp as it stands. So a lot of potential gains to be had 😊
Things will get sorted, I too, think some horses have escaped, but its allegedly ported too, No, I dont have the dyno printout, the exhaust manifold is dire, Im not overly keen on making a new one tho, so I will be scouring the adverts and auto jumbles for a Simpson or a Tony Law or similar to turn up that will be a good starting point. probably not Ashley tho,

I have to agree with JB that nothing beats a solid / sound base as a starting point - Way too many times have I witnessed an owner purchase something very cheap because of the amount of work / welding / fabrication required with a complete underestimation of how much time & energy is required just to arrive at the solid bodyshell stage and by then much of the original enthusiasm for the project has been lost - Which is why we see so many uncompleted projects appear on the market
Its been awful wet this last week, which has resulted in finding the screen leaks a little, so that has to be sorted, I have found somebody fix the the small bit of bodywork that needs fixing, and started collecting bits to improve whats already a nice build, I have ordered some carb rebuild kits, received some ethanol proof rubber fuel pipe, probably a good idea to review the whole fuel system, Perhaps a battery relocation to the boot, And, change the exhaust manifold, I have seen nicer and its bugging the hell out of me, so I been rummaging around and found a used Simpson hotrod manifold, which it seems to be within the size parameters of the shell, all apart from it not dropping much, I am assuming thats because of the original car it came from was dry sumped.
Nice manifold, Simpson have a good name so should be nicely made, hope it fits! If you need any techi info on the engine stuff let me know or if your struggling to identify parts/part numbers
Well that never went to plan, just before leaving to put the car into storage, the wife asked to go for a drive, a quick blat around the block, and a slight whiff of antifreeze assaulted my nostrils, then the screen was covered with antifreeze....... I think I said OH DEAR.........., fortunately I was about 500mtrs from my house, so I pootled home slowly, steaming gently, pulled up outside the house, much to the amusement of my neighbour, hoping it was just a popped hose. Houston, Do you think we have a problem? the pipe looks like it has no reinforcement, reminds me of the little pipe ford used for the oil breather on early crossflows.

Might take you up on that offer if I need help, I was hoping to find my head was a Coscast, without rummaging about with a mirror, I think I spotted a core plug on the back of the head, there other questions, like best HT leads, Not knowing exactly what getrag box from what manta, I might need a linkage bush kit
I wouldnt worry to much about the head, I think they made an additional 6hp or something like that but thats easy enough to make up elsewhere, most of the porus GM heads have either been fixed or long gone now. With the leads Im not sure you would notice the difference from any of the good quality aftermarket stuff, also with some of the big fat leads you may struggle to get them under the cover, not sure where the coil pack is but they may even be a different length to standard? That 5 speed gearbox was only used in the Manta B and Carlton up to 1986 its not mega strong to be honest, out of interest I will look some part numbers up for the bushes and other wear parts and see what ive got, you may even find the linkage has been messed with to get it to fit?
This is a picture from the GM mcrofiche so it not great but gives you an idea whats on the gearstick, the only bits that tend to wear are the seat no3 which I have in stock and no8 and no9 which I dont, 8 seems to be some sort of bearing and 9 seems to be a washer, the later models used a gear stick similar but 8 and 9 were replace with top hat bushes from either side
