Thankyou for that, interesting, probably find the No 13 are loose, Im sure I can machine most of the bushes out of some nylon bar I have, we will find out soon.
Heater pipe is back and sorted, now for the heinous job of filling the system, I think I will have a look and see if there is a better plumbing solution its a but like Medusa on a bad hair day in the engine bay, The car is is now enconced in my garage at home, its a bit snug, too snug, planning to find more space by playing Tetris today. The engine is a bit of a mystery, I know its been tuned with cams etc, BUT, its tired, theres a cam tap, only one, has one of the followers give up, or is it a mechanical cam set up, also the pistons sound a bit Skirt slappy, if its had pistons, short skirts may have been used, and theres a bit of blow by too in as much as you can remove the oil cap rest it over the filler hole and the cap will slightly hover about 5mm in the air, and the 45s do need a looking at as they hemorrhage fuel out of the trumpets in a steady dribble, I have rebuild kits, but don't have a pressure gauge,.... Yet, oh and it may have the famous Porus Head, I know its not a hard fix, or at least it should not be... Ha Ha, Quite the thing down, when it comes on cam even deaf people can hear it, not sure if its induction noise or the exhaust blows, again it could be induction because the exhaust is extremely restricted causing a real back pressure issue, I have yet to try my Simpson manifold for fit,
If its still on hydraulic lifters which I should think it is they can get lazy and even oil changes dont help, if you take the lifter out you can get the hydraulic insert out to clean which makes a huge difference, these engines are prone to little end wear as well which gives more of a tinkle sound, What makes you think the head might be porus?

At least you have some cash to spend on it now!!
Porosity, as you know is not that uncommon, when the water pipe burst, there was a small amount of snot on the water filler cap, but no sign on the oil filler cap, Interesting about stripping down the lifters, I had cams and lifters in my mind, that would be a more agreeable choice there was always the old trick of of using hi detergent Diesel oil of the correct weight to purge the engine,
Biggest problem with the lifters is they dont get a regular oil flow, once pumped up they hold the pressure and there is very little leak off otherwise it would sound like a Maestro diesel every time it fired up waiting the lifters to pump up, going back to the piston slap Im sure that should go once the engine is warm where as little ends you get it all the time

Are they all push together, or circlips like the US type, do I need any O rings? this cold be a nice little weekend job, when Im bored and the boss is out dog walking, going to be a long walk
Been playing with bits n bobs today, first was the continuous dribble of fuel from the side draft bell mouth, top end rebuild kit obtained, replaced the float valve which was well worn, prior to that checked the float level gap @ 2-3mm should be 8.5-9mm much bending of floats and float tabs got the 8.5 I wanted, well thats cured that issue, Ill do the other one tomorrow, unbolted the MBE ignition box from the strut and modified it so its much less obtrusive and while I was there moved the 4 mtrs of excess cable that was tied to the box, thats a bit better hidden now, this, in turn revealed a mess of wiring and jury rigged relays, pulled the relay wiring apart as it was really corroded, remounted the relay wiring into correct relay bases, theres still a bit to do, butI started tracing wires back to a 2 fuse box and a single fuse box and an inline fuse too, I have NEVER seen 3 fuses in one run of wire before, thats now sorted but theres a lot more to unearth before Im happy. and the car still starts and runs, which I suppose is a bonus,
Single circuit brakes, nice! If you could get a cold air box on that it would make it a much nicer drive, probably get a few more horses as well
There are plans for a better braking system, time will tell, but for a better system, I may need to go for bigger wheels, it already has a vented fronts with Mondeo callipers, but the discs are only about 230mm so feel is at a minimum, and what dual circuit MC will fit,
My biggest fear the moment is the few feet of electrical tape hiding something undesirable, the fact that a previous owner proudly told me "I have improved the wiring on the car, it was terrible" if its improved..... fec, it must have been a mobile bonfire waiting to happen, Airbox of some sort is a must,
Later model Dolomites had dual circuit brakes so it should be a bolt on upgrade to convert.
Dollys had servos, which as a personal thing, im not a liker of without ABS as they kill pedal feel, I have started looking already, If I go to 15s it will probably have 300mm (ish) disc and I think I am correct in saying I have a pair of Princess callipers round at a mates, and a pair of cosworth big discs in my shed, If not, it will be wildwood radial mount callipers princess style, also with a bit of reading I think escort hubs may bolt onto triumph spindles with one bearing change, Need to find my Timkin bearing book and cross reference
I saw that, bit of an oddity, who actually uses Stag engines? unless its in a stag, they are Heavy, almost impossible to get decent power from, and quite fragile,
The gear stick should just knock out of the housing complete with the seat, I wouldnt want to try it without a replacement seat though as it may break up on the way out, search part number 90278761
