Aintree 27/05/23
Aintree isn’t the most exciting circuit, just 3 corners and a couple of long straights, but you have to carry speed everywhere to get a good time. However, it isvery local to me so the car was loaded Friday night for a 6:30 am start and by 7:00 the car was unloaded and prep’ed. Met up with some similarly afflicted wedge owner mates, Darryl who runs a Carbon bodied SS1 and Phil who has a super-charged Mazda powered one. Walked the track and then back for scrutineering.
No oil evident from the previous work so all good to go!
Times for the day
Run | 64ft | Beecher’s | Speed | Time |
P1 | 2.74 | 40.78 | 84 | 64.26 |
P2 | 2.81 | 39.69 | 88 | 62.51 |
T1 | 2.89 | 41.20 | 88 | 63.71 |
T2 | 2.69 | 38.78 | 88 | 61.44 |
T3 | 2.71 | 39.52 | 85 | 62.53 |
T1 was an entertainment run for the crowd i.e. a bit sideways through County (1st corner). Gathered it up but sideways is not quick!
T2 was my fastest of the day but there was still loads on the table.
T3 was an attempt to use 3rd through County but dropped off cam and have to find it anyway so that didn’t work.
T4 was another attempt at a different gear in Village (2nd Corner) which also didn’t work but yielded another 63.71
T5 was a horror show! I made a mistake off the line and bogged down. The red mist descended further and I was over driving everywhere before missing a gear change out of Bechers (3rd corner) and buzzed the engine! Immediately no power and refused to run before coasting to a halt at the next marshals post and being recovered on a tow rope.
Luckily my cousins husband was also driving at the event and he kindly came back with his trailer after dropping his own car off at Warrington.
We pushed it into the garage, I deposited a crate of brewdog in his van and so ended a gutting day!
More on yesterday’s diagnosis later
