Better to beg forgiveness than ask permission!
This phrase was given by advice by a petrolhead mate of mine and has only been used once before by me. So, with a stalled project in the trailer and another needing more time than I can spend to finish it, the obvious thing to do is….buy another one that needs work but with an MOT on it!
Advertised as follows:
Originally white, now metallic blue with white spots
Galvanised chassis which looks more like 5 years old instead of 28
Refurbished starter motor
New fuel pump
New Mocal fuel lines with charcoal canister deletion. Fuel tank removed and refurbed
New rear wheel bearings. Rear suspension shot blasted and refurbished at the same time
New Gaz front shocks with RR uprated springs, Spax adjustable rears
Recent brake calipers, shoes, cylinders and hoses, I’ve fitted new pads and flushed the fluid
New drivers side window regulator
New headlights and side/indicator units with Osram H4 bulbs
Refurbished rear lights
New catalytic converter, fully stainless exhaust
New genuine larger MG/Rover throttle body and TPS
New timing belt and alternator belt, new spark plugs, HT leads, dizzy cap, coolant, oil and filter
New inlet manifold gaskets - common K series thing apparently
New Avon ZV7 195/50R15 tyres
New front anti roll bar drop links and steering rack boots
Rubber steering column coupling replaced with a proper UJ
New genuine Rover temperature sender
Solid door quarterlight frames
Headlamps that go up and down on command
Solid front wishbones - quite recently new I’d say but no paperwork.
Comes with hard top
Absolutely perfect for someone considering having a go at sprinting
I bought it from Belfast in October 2020 after it’d been sat for about a year. It received a full recommissioning and since then I’ve been using it daily including regular trips to Manchester, Birmingham etc and it never misses a beat. It’s pretty economical and loads of fun. I honestly think it’s more fun on a B road than a Ti. Using all the revs of the buzzy little K series is brilliant and it’s not exactly slow.
This car isn’t really a show car but it’s absolutely perfect to actually use. You can leave it anywhere and not be worried about someone opening their door onto it (you’d be hard pushed to tell anyway) and you could take it absolutely anywhere.
The good bits include the list above really but anyone that knows Scimitars and Sabres know how important some of them are. New fuel lines are an absolute must, door frames are hen’s teeth and wishbones and rear trailing arms are a common weak point but all of those are good on this one.
Things that want doing to it
It should probably have a new roof. The one that’s on it isn’t the best but I didn’t put a new one on as I use a cap cover when the car’s parked and only really drive it with the roof down. I think I’ve had the roof up 4 times since its MOT?
Fit a roll bar. It might save your life.
The cosmetics. There’s problems all over it; bubbles, cracks etc but there’s nothing that effects the cars use.
Mine for £3100
Now all I have to do is tell Ju!
