Once I finished laughing at the agent and his preposterously priced spares, I set about making what I needed. Offcut of 1/4” gauge plate and £10 worth of carbide strip
Milled a 4mm slot in either side of the plate
Milled two slots through. Makes it easier to cut into the two guides, but leaves enough surface area that it still sticks to the magnet on the grinder
Silver soldered the carbide strip into the slots. Once the plate was cold,I put it in boiling water,it’s the quickest and easiest way to get the flux off
Ground to size
Ready to cut into two guides.
Milled finished and installed. Forgot photos. Total time to make? 3 hours. Total material? Possibly £15. ….And the agents price for them? £185 plus Vat…..EACH 🙄. Good value for money…not
Then started making the bearing guides from some aluminium bar
Again, because of the Agents stupid prices. If I would have bought the two carbide guides from them, the two bearing guide brackets, the bearings, spacers and bolts, the total would have come to more than I paid for the saw….😳. Yes, I did get the saw for a fair price, but the spares prices are genuinely laughable….
Us Yorkies are not that bad - Its just that if every vendor priced what they had for sale correctly in the first place then we wouldn't have to request the 40% discount that's required to complete the sale
No its me telling Johnny he dosent have room for it.....
Yeh - But you know Johnny - always up for a challenge & never admits defeat - He'll just tag a 40' shipping container on to the end of the building to house the bit that he doesn't have room for

Then I pulled the hydraulic tank out. What a job that was 🙄. Some say the guy that designed this saw and it’s completely hard piped pump set up with 500 connections that need to be disconnected along with the 5 pipes that need to be totally removed to get the tank out to change the filter, left this West German manufacture and now works for Landrover….🙄
Many hours later the tank was out
Filter blocked, but it’s on the suction side, not the relief side,so not sure a new one is going to cure the vicious down feed
Looks like some idiot has put brake fluid in the hydraulics at some point, most of the sludge in the tank is dissolving red lead paint that the tank was originally coated in 🤬🤬🤬
is the down feed a gravity feed with an oil filled cylinder with a bypass? I had to sort one years ago, the down control needle/taper seat valve had been replaced previously, but the that person had missed the foot valve on the fill side when you lifted the blade.
