The Mercedes G Wagon has been around in all sorts of variants since 1979 - although its hideously priced - even rough ones command premium prices
Did a front main seal on a 280 back in the day as a favour for a friend who'd had a clutch done at a fast fit place & they'd butchered it; cost me nix to do as Dad ran a German special tool company and we had a ramp etc., but I'll never forget the trip to / from the workshop - drove like a wardrobe & consumed fuel at a rate that simply defied belief. 8ish MPG cold & 12 warm - dear old David chucked me a nifty for the job but I think I dropped £60 on fuel, and that was in 1992!
Haven't seen it yet, but it'll be the 4th car I've bought off the chap and they've all been under-described so far
V8, woofly, nice colour, nothing gaudy, 3.5T towing capacity - I've never been much of a Landie chap but I can see happy things on the highways and byways ahead
It doesn't stop toomanyprojects from running one has his tow / hauler but I'm aware he has had to throw a small fortune at it recently - personally I think that they are overpriced but way under rated - the majority appear to slag off LR in general - I'll just keep smiling and let mine do the work that I purchased it for
yup, love mine and wouldn't be without it but the issue with the D3 4.4 V8 generation (as I've found out) are the complex systems like air suspension, electronic parking brake etc.
Still having not spent anything on it for the first three years of ownership I don't begrudge spending what it needs now - still cheaper than the depreciation on a new one!
Been around a long time now and over the last 12 months have started to command strong money
I really wanted one of those about 20 years ago. Drove a new 4L one. Shocking lack of space in the cabin. Shocking appetite for fuel - lucky escape for me.
Nope its Land Rover Minerva - Built under licence in Belgium between 1952 - 1956 for military purposes - all steel body on either 80" or 86" chassis but you are right about the price - a decent one can be had for £6 - £8k

This is the Austin Gypsy - produced between 1958 to 1968 in direct competition against the offerings from Land Rover - It was fitted with a all steel body and fitted with the 2.2 litre engine taken from the Austin A70
The Wolseley Mudlark. Touted as the prototype for the Austin Champ, but not really. Wolseley was a Morris Group company. When the Austin bean counters got to work, they sort of went "Faaark, that'll be expensive", then you got the Champ.

My mate's Bowler has gone off to auction today - apparently it's one of the quickest cars he's ever driven - and he used to own a 6R4 among other exotic / quick tackle!
