After getting the repair on the torsion tube I replaced the floor support behind and fitted the jacking point then turned my attention to the side door runner and a minor floor repair. The runner was looking dire!
On to the rear. Jacking point then chassis rail repair at the back.
Another cable duct.
And in paint and working towards the rear.
Then some epoxy mastic then Rustoleum direct to metal black and grey.
Then some work at the front at the chassis arms.
I still need to drop the beam to carry out some minute repairs but it’s awkward when the roll over frame is hanging off the front wheel. May have to wait till she’s back on terra firma.
Not far now from where we are currently sat. The last work below was 2 years ago but the Mini has taken my priority just now. This will be getting done though, soon. I found Bilthamber Deox-C which is £30 for a kilo and it works well, however it is just Citric Acid which you can buy for £6 a kilo on the bay. It’s food safe and is used for sorbets and bath bombs!
Here’s what half a kilo filled with warm kettle water for an hour in a builders bucket with a fish tank heater to keep it at 25’C does!
Before
After
Still lots of pits from the rust but at least this is OG metal and will fit. Aftermarket stuff made from monkey metal is £50!
I put a centre piece back in and drilled to accept the hub.
So I could start to build it back up.
Other bits cleaned and painted.
And how she currently looks after replacing a few conduits and the Bowden tube for the handbrake.
As you can no doubt appreciate I have a lot more pics of the work but this thread is just the main highlights. I think most of you understand this has been a mammoth task which I can sort of see the light at the end of the tunnel as it is within reach to have a solid base to work from and get some panel work attached and have something which resembles a bus.
I will add to this as and when I do more to her. Thanks for showing an interest. These pics may also help others who can’t work out what’s needed like around the floor supports and sills etc.

Incredible work. The more I read, the more I am starting to think I should just tackle the one I have rather than send it elsewhere. The minor issue is the queue of other projects in front of it...

hence the user name!
I tell anyone who has a project, just look at it as bite sized jobs. Don’t take off too much and hit it a bit at a time then all of a sudden, before you kow it it looks manageable!
Well I'm feeling a bit better about the state of my t3 bus now. Kudos to you, you're well on the way to saving something that otherwise would probably be gone from the roads forever
Just sold my VW T5 camper yesterday and picking up our new (to us) Brazilian T2 Danbury bay from Bath tomorrow. That should give me even more leeway when it comes to getting Gertie on the road. Meet Fleur our 2007 water cooled bus.
I agree, not the prettiest thing from the front. VW Kampers do a dummy spare wheel cover that’s vented for cooling but colour matched & fitted its £700!!!!
Engine is a liquid cooled 3 cylinder VW Fox 1.4 Petrol engine which is something like 78 bhp and still gives an offbeat rumble but deffo not the same sound as a flat 4 boxer.
