Male retail therapy
Just goes to prove that there are some good value gems out there, you do need to occasionally sift through a fair amount of rubbish to find them however!
Very jealous of the tap & die set, it's a thing of beauty and you just don't get tools made like that any more.
I inherited my shoe iron from my grandparents and use it all the time in the workshop - plenty more locally if anyone wants one

Towbar electrics on the Range Rover had started to play up - typically all the retaining captive retaining nuts in the socket were just turning and I had to hacksaw through the socket to remove it
Once traced back it turned out to be a fuse that had blown - probably whilst messing around with trailers whilst at the Goodwood Members Meeting
Took the opportunity to derust the socket mounting plate - applied Hydrate 80 then primed & painted it
Back together & tested but why cant someone produce a proper towbar socket & plug system instead of the useless cheap rubbish
All my recent towbar equipped vehicles have had the 13 Pin European socket, even if just wired for a basic trailer, they seem to be pretty bombproof. I have a converter in case I ever needed to pull someone else's trailer.

Been out to Hereford to look at this 1926 Jowett Long 4 Tourer which although runs is down on power
The carburettor specification appears to be wrong being a Zenith HZ 26 - my 1927 Long 4 (identical model) is fitted with a HZ30
I managed to source a HZ30 and fitted it - engine starts & runs but there is an occasional misfire
Traced to a broken contact on the points - I'll have to order a set from Jowett Car Spares - The car is required for a wedding at the end of the month - Plan B being is that If cant get a set a points in time I'll have take the set out of my own Long 4
Amongst Johns varied classic collection is this 1972 Rolls Shadow
Sadly with a bruised offside rear, even sadder is the fact that its also blown the head gasket on the nearside bank

This is a Jupiter that I purchased 10 + years ago
It came in lots of pieces for restoration but its now one of several projects too many and is subject to a clear out of part of my collection
I'll loosely assemble it has rolling project
Before offering it to the market - Its pretty rare in the fact that only just over 900 Jupiters were built of which around half survive the vast majority of which have been found & restored hence Jupiters for restoration are now very scarce in the market
And Sid has commenced his spring / summer duties in his workshop inspection role

Hideously busy with many things happening (That many that I find it difficult to find time to write posts up for the forum currently) Anyhow I thought that I deserved a day off
so I assisted Richard with driving some of his collection up to Curborough Sprint Circuit for a private meeting
Mini is a late Mk1 Cooper (original) and went pretty well
The Audi R8 was pretty good - 1500 kilos with 450 BHP V8
But the little Lotus Exige S350 - 1050 kilos with 350 BHP V6 - What a stunning motor - went round the track like it was on rails even in the wet
V12 Aston DB7 turned up and belonged to a fellow club member buts its too much of a parts bin car for my liking
Along with a smart Javelin but that stayed where it belonged in the paddock
Long day by the time I got home but work hard - Play hard

A trip to Glasgow to help celebrate Mrs GN's birthday but never one to miss opportunities
Hence the rear of the Range Rover was loaded
Along with the trailer and these were off loaded enroute to Jowett Car Spares in Bradford
And after a weekend of sightseeing / museums & eateries - I then loaded this 53' Javelin Deluxe and transported it back down to Hampshire for a quick service prior to delivery in a few days time to a certain magazine editor.

Still manic at my end but the Jupiter disposal project has gained a engine & gearbox
Some seats along with a dashboard
Doors are fitted too
And the bonnet frame is just going together
The Javelin I brought back from Glasgow has had the engine bay wiring improved in areas that I wasn't happy with
Its had a check over
Then delivered to a Cambridge abode of a classic car magazine editor
To use as his rally stead this coming weekend
Meanwhile my own Javelin has been cleaned & checked over as its attending the same rally
Fully loaded with kit for the rally along with the Jowett Shop that myself & Mrs GN run for the club
However the Javelin just doesn't have the capacity for everything
Hence the Range Rover is fully loaded too - just got our personal stuff to load this morning before I head off to Yorkshire - If you are at a loose end on Saturday the Jowett Car Clubs national rally is being held at Greenhead Park, Huddersfield HD1 4DT 10:30 - 16:00 hours - Its a free of charge event
Not just the truckload that was impressive either but the way he reversed the trailer & tractor unit through the tight gate without hesitation - more tomorrow
