Multi axis Cnc lathe recomission- Remove your Caps.

Ooh goody, another one!

Let’s just say the tenant of the warehouse where we needed to collect the lathe from was special. Very special. After the fiftieth  time he told me to be careful of his precious epoxy floor that cost more than the lathe, I just switched off. He was a total div. Only place I have ever been for a morning,and not once did we get offered a cuppa,or even a glass of water.Stingy barsteward. Most of the issues with getting it out stemmed directly from him. They had put it there with a gurt forklift. Resting it on blocks of wood right where the jacking pints are, so we come along and we cannot jack it up 😡
He then insisted we use thin plywood between the machine moving skates and the floor. It scratched it to buggery,by which time I really couldn’t care any more , I had had enough...🤣🤣

Anyways, safe in the man cave,it took a couple of weeks to gain the courage to look at it a bit more closely. I hadn’t been able to open the electrical cabinets before buying it,as it was hard up against the wall. Couldn’t find the keys either,so drilled the locks out



They were the most expensive holes I ever drilled. Drilled four locks out with a brand new Makita drill. Took the drill home,packed into the garage. Garage broken into and drill nicked the first week of the first lockdown....👎🏻
Old locks removed. Had to use the levers from the old locks,but everything interchangeable



New locks fitted


I also went and collected all the tooling for it.



There was a van load of,including a lot of collets



Also came with a 12” hydraulic Chuck and loads of soft jaws for it

All live tooling. 10 tool turret with a 12 tool toolchanger at the back. Conventional X and Z axis of a normal lathe but with an added bonus of a B, C and Y axis so you can destroy tools in ways you never new existed up to now 🤣🤣

Sadly my tool is inactive. 😬

Eventually I managed to find a good second hand drive at a reasonable price



One thing that did let the machine down were the keyboard membranes. All brittle and flaky from being operated by coolant covered digits.



I managed to find aftermarket replacements. Stupid money for a printed piece of lasercut double sided tape with a plastic covering



So, first keypad out



It actually has separate buttons underneath the membrane overlay



Pig to clean all the remains of the double sided tape off, but got there in the end



One down, one to go

Like many I'm enjoying this, but I have no idea what is going on.

So what kind of thing can this make, that a pensioner in a shed with a Myford can't
No offence to pensioners, sheds or Myfords

.......and over and over and over over.

O the power of B,C,Z

this machine can make a piston from a forging including the ring slots, oil holes in the ring slots and machine the pin holes without moving it once.

its a turret head mill mounted to a lathe.

i want one just not that big.
