Just realised I've not updated this thread for a while, the good thing is that there has been more progress
Custom made side panel has now arrived and been mocked up for fitment
Rear quarter too has been fabricated
and the shutlines/panel fit have started to be tweaked
and as you may have already noticed from the above, there has even been some progress on profiling in some areas
With the above in mind I too have been on the road again collecting parts to be assessed/refreshed as required, so a few more items have appeared in the workshop at Toomanyprojects HQ. However there may be a few upgrades on the horizon if I get my way
Am due a trip over to the good folk at MPR soon with the 'client' to sort a few bits and make some decisions including paint. It's going to be a busy summer! Exciting times.

There's been some more/quite decent progress on the bus on a number of fronts.
Quite a milestone has been reached as all welding has now been completed, including the replacement floor
replacement side panels
as well as internally on the lattice frame
We're now into panel gap alignment so locks have been fitted where available
Doors are also on
which were painted a fetching shade to highlight the gaps
and I have a bit of a shopping/collation task to get some parts together and get them over to Shropshire asap
In the meantime the guys have been busy and the van is also now in epoxy - what a difference it being in one colour makes
It's not just the guys at MPR who have been busy, while at the revival I caught up with the folk at type 2 detectives as I'm after their expertise in sorting the running gear and upgrading a few things while we're in build. So following a quick chat at the revival I popped down when off work the following week for a chat and a tour as they are only about 40 mins from me.
It's quite the set up and they certainly have some nice bits of kit in stock
The main purpose of my visit was to discuss options for fitting a bigger engine and IRS, hence seeing the options in the flesh was a no-brainer
I won't reveal all just yet but a plan has been concocted... exciting times
While out and on my home I thought I'd call into Dean at Trimworks. Those familiar with 'Binky' on YouTube will know who I'm talking about. By a bizarre twist of fate, he too has moved to this part of the world and so I've many plans for him , starting with a quick project for SWMBO's MGTF, hence a visit to say hello and catch up, but also to get his thoughts on a few things. Interestingly while there he had something with a familiar shape in the unit
Next bits are to start compiling the parts wish list from MPR and to source some of the tricker fixtures and fittings. Great to have some progress, not great for my own projects however...

Some bus updates... I say updates as I've been a bit lax this month and there's been a fair amount going on behind the scenes
So at the end of October, specifically in half term as that's when the 'client' had time off school , we had a trip to Shropshire to drop off some parts and have a look at progress (worryingly it's been over 12 months since we last visited). There were also some decisions to be made... think it was fair to say it looked very different to the last time we visited.
Anyway some progress photos to follow on from the above
Profiling was well underway
Interior heating had all been repaired and reinstated
Cab floor is now in place
Rear engine compartment was awaiting seam sealer
Suffice to say the boss was rather happy with progress

So progress has continued at a pace, and it's colour reveal time...
Bro's preference was not to go back to how it was, i.e. baby blue as every other one seemed to be that colour. Instead the decision was made to go for something a little different following on from inspiration we'd seen at various Sandown Park VW shows and Goodwood in the past. Think coffee and cream... or in this case Old English White and Audi SVO Mocha Latte
Firstly the inside needed priming, profiling and the roof painting in the OEW tinted raptor
Before it was time for the tinted raptor on the bed, rear shelf and side panels, partly to help with wear but also to add a little sound deadening
which contrasts nicely with the lighter OEW on the upper sections
before a smooth coat of the Mocha Latte on lower levels such as the cab divider, floors and front panels which are visible from inside the cab
While we were at it, conversations were had around what to do with the dash. Far too common to have them plain and then suffer the issues of glare, especially with such a light colour as the OEW. Therefore a plan was concocted between myself and the painter with the hope that the 'client' would like it...
Luckily the answer was yes! Sadly I even rather liked the orange tape divider too but that was soon removed to give the final look
A few more of the inside finish, then it's on to the outside...
Suffice to say we're really happy with how things have turned out and bro I think is getting excited about it once again. Probably just as well timing wise as his number two child arrived this week just in time for Christmas.
Can't wait to see it with the glass in and the brightwork fitted.
You and me both Ray! However I need to source some side windows as the previous set have seen better days:
After thoroughly inspecting them, it was deemed that they could be stripped, blasted, painted and then rebuilt but not without great difficulty and ergo expense. The decision was therefore made to source a new set of side opening windows with the integrated rubbers. The slight issue? the maximum I can find right now is four... that and I also c*cked up by ordering the wrong seals (I thought they were fixed windows), so they need to go back as well.
Great to see some progress on this. What’s the plan for the rebuild?
The intention is that subject to timings of the above, we get it effectively water tight with all the doors, windows and tailgate fitted in place but it stays on its dolly. It's then off to be rebuilt elsewhere with new and improved mechanical hardware, not the cheapest route granted, but should make it infinitely more usable, and given the likely family cargo, a heck of a lot safer!
