Looking forward to seeing this build continue. One of my favorite builds! Warren
Thank you Sir. It’s all about to start happening again. Had to prioritise other things for the last couple of years, but it’s been ticking away in the background all along 😊
It’s hard to believe I scanned this boot floor over a year ago.
It was a good idea at the time, but not fraught with problems. I do think with what I know now plus the new Mastercam software,it would be a lot easier. Now that I am not going that route in making this panel ,it’s not needed. What is needed ,is a proper drawing of the bootfloor.
Seeing I have spent 150hrs on getting these done for a customer this month, my van going for an MOT today, and me generally not feeling work today, I official declare it “LETS DRAW A FLOOR DAY “ 🤣🤣
So it stared with a look at the files on the old computer to see where I got to last😊 Couple of drawing came up,thought I had got further, but evidently not. Out with some reference photos and the old bootfloor to try get my head around it all. And then I spent the rest of the day measuring and drawing . Beats working 🤣🤣
So after a couple of hours of drawing, measuring and verifying,I got to this stage, which has most of the metal pressing details Added the last few details. Each colour represents a different feature or depth of feature. Now it’s a case of figuring out a crude/ cheap tool. First thing I noticed is that I had drawn it from the “wrong side”. In CAD I generally draw in top view. Looking at the part it would be classified as having been drawn in bottom view. It’s all got to do with which way the metal need to be pressed into this shape, the draw if you will. So I mirrored the whole drawing so that I don’t make a floor that is the wrong hand 🤣🤣
In news relating to this, more parts for the tool to use with this tool arrived.( Its a separate thread in Pitlane Ramblings) 😊
So a quick recap then The Dark blue outline is the tool itself. This will be a combination of steel plates and plywood backing plates. This is to keep both costs and weight down. The pink outline is the 1,2mm steel blank that’s going to be bludgeoned,(yes,it is a good technical term in my book😊), into ultimately the best home made boot floor money cannot buy. All the other colour outlines represent a combination of 4 and 5 mm steel plates that will be used to form the various features. Took it all apart to get a price to get the various parts lasercut
