Might be worth trying the rag over the carb trick to see if it sucks any sh*t through? looking at all the other previous work carried out I doubt it will be simples!

Charging system is still playing up intermittently with ignition / charge light sometimes showing when the engine is running
Dynamo has been off the car recently (last owner) and daubed with green paint - the insulation on the brushes was poor so I cleaned the brushes up and replaced the insulation to see if it made any difference
But what I really needed to find out is the Lucas model type - its stamped on the body but with the paint couldn't be viewed - scraped it back so I could identify it as a Lucas C45PV5
Refitted back to the car and I have the same result with intermittent charging - sometimes it will be fine and other times it plays up - a quick search today reveals although its a popular model its commonly fitted to quite a few higher end of the market cars - Healey / XK Jaguars / Alvis etc and therefore carries a premium when compared to most refurbished / rebuilt dynamos (Β£300 opposed to less than half of that if its a Mini / Minor / Jowett etc) - I'll see how Matt wants to play it
No good news on the carb either - I've run the car without the air filter to ensure that its not the filter - cleaned the jets up and blown them through - someone has been here before me and the heads on some of the jets are chewed - I don't stand any chance of removing them without creating damage so I have cleaned them insitu - Engine still readily starts and initially revs in lower band range but clearly suffers on higher acceleration
Just home from a 1000 mile weekend driving our work team on the 3 Peaks Challenge - eyes pointing in different directions! Speak tomorrow as planned & hope it's sortable / nothing too serious... am hoping in particular not cam wear...
Thank you Regina for a couple of days off - you deserve them more than we in my humble opinion, but I hope you approve of the use we made of at least one of them...
So, where were we? A 'trailer it home' job had grown arms & legs & at the last she was refusing - starting & idling beautifully but as soon as any throttle or grunt asked for, dying / dropping onto 2 or 3 cylinders...
Headed over to Berks more in hope than expectation, and at least hoping to know where to send her next
Sure to form she fired & idled perfectly & when given throttle would cut & stutter - both it felt by cylinder count & generally
Had a good look at the cap arm points (it felt far more like ignition than any other potential issue) - all good, so we tried the old insulated pliers one lead off at a time trick, which suggested 2 awful ones & 2 not great ones!
A happy hour making up new ones (as well as meeting Sid) & we were duly rewarded
Quite a bit of work needed but certainly looks a good base to work on and will turn out nice.
As I thought when I first saw it on the trailer. Quite a bit of fabrication and welding and a good polish and it hasn't half turned out nice. You must be well pleased with that.

I've been waiting for a rocker cover gasket to come into stock - which arrived yesterday - this commenced leaking oil when the car went out on the last road test
But yet more bodgery uncovered when I removed the air filter - the filter clamp had worn a hole through the rocker cover - the cover had been removed and painted but the worn through hole simply ignored
I'm not quite sure how the previous owner expected the gasket to seal
Welded up & cleaned back
Gaskets for the holding studs were also goosed but these are identical to the ones I keep in stock for the Javelin & Jupiter engines
Refitted - air filter to go back on this morning - a few other tweak's to made today and it can can head off to its new home

Regarding the spares situation, the club was having a difficult time when this work was happening, their excellent spares secretary had died unexpectedly & there being no one else ready to take on the role the directors took the controversial decision to no longer sell parts & so the stock was sold to a trader who is also a long standing club member & owner. Meanwhile the guy who ran the used parts continues to do so but as an independent recommended by the club. The original workshop manual for the 12 & 16 models published by Austin contains all the information that you would need, copies come up regularly at autojumbles & on Ebay for around Β£25.
