Toggle fastening for the spare wheel door sorted
I need to repair the steering wheel of which the outer rim covering is damaged - you can send them away to be done but the few specialists that undertake this type of work know how to charge and its nothing that I cant sort myself in a reasonable timeframe
I'll probably do a separate thread in the technical section then anyone else with the same problem has a guide on how to undertake the work
The inner windscreen frame was trial fitted - this had been repaired previously by others and required some reworking to make it fit - all the inner frames will be painted hence its essential to ensure that they fit at this stage - I don't want to be having to drill holes or find the frames require adjustment once they are painted
Fuel filler neck trial fitted to the tank
Just a simple hose connection but the neck gets painted hence another item that its important to check the fit of
At this point I noticed a chink of light beaming through the side of neck where rust had made a perforation
Duly sorted with solder rather than weld - the brass threaded ring for the cap is also soldered on and I did not want to disturb this by using the higher heat generated with welding
Handbrake assembled as this had been apart for shot blasting - it was also conformation that all the parts were present - it will come apart again for painting
Dashboard fitted up - Trevor had already restored the instrument panel & switchgear along with wiring it up - Dashboard requires a few welded repairs prior to painting
Glovebox liner fitted - this requires a cosmetic refresh but its good enough to go again
Door step brackets were only fitted to the Deluxe Utility Vans - they fasten to the chassis rails on each side
But they are all twisted / deformed - some worse than others
Liberal use of the welding torch to get them cherry red in areas followed by some hammer / anvil action sees them straightened up
More soon
