Well, as a bit of background I’ve owned 10 minis, most of which back in the day when they were ranging from £50 to a few hundred, starting with .....
a 72 harvest beige (or similar) 1100 clubman,
an 80 mini van bought for £50, got running and sold for £125 I think it was,
a 80 1100 Clubby in two tone brown with a beige roof,
a metallic blue Mayfair with the reg LFC85W (a big year for Liverpool by all accounts),
an Equinox without an engine,
a 76 1000 which my Dad fully deseamed and deguttered fitted with brand new Wellers and Mk1 Escort Mex seats!,
a 71 Riley Elf
a 91 BRG RSP Cooper
and finally a 95 Sprite before stumbling via a mate across this 93 Cooper SPi which had sat languishing in a garage unused for 5 years and looked in reasonable condition.
This was the day I got it collected.
it looked in reasonable condition but the wings were obviously full of filler and some of the usual areas were questionable, notably the corner of the roof and scuttle and there was an almighty oil leak from the timing case which someone had unsuccessfully tried to bodge .
obviously this was caused by over tightening the cover bolts bending the steel and someone had used an incorrect bolt in the top of the cover and jacked the front plate off the engine until it was bent. This necessitated a new front plate but the timing cover was no longer available with the breather so it got fettled and tarted up! I also polished the rad top tank and Ford (??) alternator.
the front was also hacked off and a load of new Heritage panels ordered from Minispares
I also got a set of 13 inch Revos and Miglia arches locally for £150 so they were procured in a hurry before they sold. I also found out the car was fitted with 4 pot Metro Calipers.
Pic showing the poke with the Revos and arches fitted before the front end made way for new.
more to come.....
