Fingers crossed for lots of pictures of lumps of metal turned into fabulous things next week then?!
Here's hoping - a gearbox conversion plate to a overdrive unit for a Jowett would be nice - but there's a lot more work than just plonking a billet of steel into a mill and hoping for the best - Just one of many projects that JB has on the go
The only thing I can see it has made so far is a mess
Correct. At last count I think it was four bin bags of industrial wipes....To put it into perspective I cleaned its big brother that is twice the size on Monday. Half a bin bag of industrial wipes....😊
Well, that didn’t quite go to plan. Pretty much like December, and, when I thought things couldn’t get worse, well, they did....🙄
Got the covers all back on the mill, complete with new brass rivets holding the sign on😊
First job up and running, simple drill 4 holes on a pcd and repeat on ten parts. Simples? Err no....
Bombed out on the second last hole on the last part with this error code
Quick cheat to finish the job was to bypass one of the oil pressure switches. This changed the error to this
Red errors stop the machine, black errors just cause grief, but you can carry on. Managed to finish job and deliver it. Time to see what’s going on....
It’ was just before Christmas by now, and the relay board ,whilst in stock, won’t be delivered until the new year. Not good. I’ve got to get this and another job finished. It turns out, that relay that burnt the board out is old damage. Nothing new. Most of these Cnc machines have a M30 power off option. A cnc machine runs on G and M codes. M30 is one way of telling the machine that the program is finished. You can use an option, that when it “sees” M30, it switches the machine off. That’s what this relay is responsible for. It switches the computer and all the drives off, spindle, pumps etc. It looks, from the control panel that the machine is totally devoid of power, well it is, kind off. Only that relay is still powered until you reset the machine. It’s used if you are running a program at night,or unattended and you want the machine to switch itself off when done. . My guess is the previous idiot owner used it , went on holiday and came back three weeks later to the board being burnt as it had been powered all along and it’s not designed to be energised for days on end. So instead of replacing the board, he disconnected the wires to it, pulled the relay out that was melted. It still didn’t work as the relay next to it was damaged as well. No problem, let’s just pull a relay out from somewhere else to use...hence the missing relay on the right end of the board
Yep, you guessed it, the relay he chose to pull out doesn’t do anything important, it’s just for lubrication.....🙄
