Weathers been good so lots of outside stuff to catch up on, but progress is continuing if a little slow!
This flangy bit goes in the engine bay between the inner wing and bulkhead, bits missing due to the rust bug but ive got the remains of the doner to chop some bit out for repairs
Been a bit slow with the updates but here goes Passenger side wing assembly preparation, the end of the leg was missing where it had been chopped off the donor so the good bit was removed from my old leg
Attached
Taped all the holes up and poured epoxy primer down the inside of the leg to give it a good coating inside then there was nothing left to do apart from sticking it to the car, used the crossmember and lots of other measurements to make sure it all lined up
The outrigger/jacking point thingy had to be reused, I thought I had a new one but it turned out to be for an Omega B which means it was too short to use, The old one had really been pummelled over the years with misplaced jacking but I managed to get some shape back into it
A bit of not too pretty reinforcing to make sure it hopefully doesnt get squished again, you dont see any of this when its fitted!
Onto the windscreen lower scuttle area, I think its had 3 screens in its 380,000 miles and as usual the paint gets damaged when the screens are replaced Oh yeah thats what were talking about! where the rust had expanded it had actually put a split up the screen
The panel curves both ways so a bit of creative MDF tooling gets is this
Out with the old and in with the new
Unfortunately the ends havent fared that well, so more MDF tooling to get some shapes
and stuck in place, the ends just seem to float with origionally a load of sealing goo pumped in so thats what its going to get the wiper linkage mounting brackets were also reinstated
Stuck on a decent coat of primer and some rattle can top coat just seal the primer now the weather is turning damp Still lots of pitting where the rust was cleaned out but this can be dealt with once the final paint procedure has been decided
Still slow going but a bit more done, the slam panel with radiator mounts was pretty manky, the only one I had in stock was for the baby engined cars which use different radiator mounts so a bit of surgery was required
Picked them both apart
Lot of rust removal and a splash of etch weldthrough primer
Unfortunately the slam panel is for the pre-facelift cars which have different sized indicators that affect the shape of the ends
A bit of MDF shaped as a hammer form got something close enough
In place and contorted with the spotwelder and MIG to fix forever
A bit of bling to get the mojo going, the origional dual mass flywheel was showing its 380,000 miles and nothing is available so we got this lump! just got to source a clutch plate as it will need to be sprung differently, im way off needing it but its here now!
Bit more done, this is the lower front crossmember, it only holds the air con rad, lower bumper fixings and a few pipes. This was only spot welded to the front of the chassis legs in a few places but ive made it removable by fixing either side with a couple of nuts and bolts which means the engine/gearbox assembly can go straight under on the pallet truck and lift into position
As its a box section and another rare panel ive taped up the holes ready to pour epoxy down the inside to coat all the surfaces and get in the seams
Just fits here, It wont get fitted properly until the engine/gearbox goes back in
I'm going to need some soon. Over on the Mig Welding forum Jotun is the go to brand. They do a Zinc loaded one I'm leaning towards at the moment, at least for underside and unseen areas.

Great progress being made here.

I'm using an epoxy mastic, bilt hammer or whatever its called, great to brush on where the finish doesn't need to be spot on, tough as old boots but does seem to take a while to go off even though it's 2K
Got to start working backwards now, been putting this bit of floor off for a while
Underside view, there is a crossmember that joins to the inner sill which doesnt look too clever, I could just pretend I didnt see it and slather it in something but it will just come back to haunt me!
Off with the sill then so we can see inside, many spotwelds later
Its off, looks amazingly good inside with a heavy coat of wax and a coating of grime
Released the flange and 1st go at a clean up, should come up ok without too much major work
Time to patch the hole in the floor, ive not got a folder or shrinker/stretcher but with a bit of creative tooling something should be achievable, It rises up both ends with a flange that fixes to the inner sill
Insert metal and clamp
A bit of bashing and tidying up gets something pretty good! Just got to do the final trim to fit
