Progress might be slower than the usual slow pace. Just back from the docs. I've been feeling worn out for a few weeks and todays visit confirmed I have shingles round my waist and groin and bloody sore it is too. Other issue is a swollen and painful left knacker which he wants me to have an ultrasound scan on so that will be a few weeks at least before the appointment. Will take it easier and go out to the car less and other than that suck it and see. Tonight will be a generous helping of red wine followed by a triple dose of Night Nurse as I need a good sleep and that will knock me out.
Thanks for your best wishes. The car will have to wait as I am still in too much pain to do any work on it. Feeling ever so slightly better but still someway to go. Can't imagine a worse place to get shingles and hopefully the pain and swelling in my testicles is just down to the shingles. Just to really piss me off it was on tv last night that an injection for protection against shingles is now available to over 65's with a suppressed immune system which I am considered as having due to previous cancer treatment. Just a few weeks too late for me.
Ray I’m still looking at your progress - fantastic , get well soon Are you going to the Peugeot Uk Club national meeting in Coventry Sunday 10th ?
Sorry vojo, I forgot to reply. I have no plans to go to the meeting you mention. Have often thought about joining but don't know if it would be worthwhile. It's a pity you can't see the forum without joining as I suspect everything will be geared to 1980's on models. Have a great day if you go.
Managed to get out to the car at the weekend which was probably a mistake as I suffered for it on Monday and Tuesday. Got more panels into high build primer over the weekend.
Nearside door and boot were done first and than carefully moved out of the way as I don't have enough panel stands.
Then it was time for the front wings, front panel, offside door, bonnet and a sill.
Still in pain on Wednesday but with new medication from my GP I made it out to the car and as it was a nice day I worked outside. Guide coat was applied to the rear wings and they were blocked back.
Engine bay area was blocked back.
Bonnet got the same treatment.
Got a few small dents in the bonnet which have only become visible now so will need to apply either Cromax Putty or Dolphin Glaze to them and primer again.
Having next 2 days off to recover as I was getting quite sore by late afternoon.
One issue I have is a spray gun with a 1.4 cap which doesn't apply the high build primer very well and as such I have rubbed through to the epoxy primer in numerous places. Think I will thin it a bit for the next coats as it is going on very rough and not heavy enough. Two coats done like that might do it.
Other than that can I apply the top coat if I have rubbed through to the epoxy in places? Chris?
Ray - great progress. As for the rub through - I think upol #3 spot primer is what you want. I've used it, and it is very thin, so perfect for the next coats.
Had yesterday off as I was feeling quite sore but back on it today. Drivers door was blocked back.
Same for the passenger door after a guide coat was applied.
Then it was the turn of the boot lid.
Followed by the front panel.
The scuttle panel / ventilation grill had lots of paint on it (as did the rest of the car) but was being a right tw*t to clean up so I put it into a local powder coating business to get it cleaned up. Came back perfect.
A good scrub up with panel wipe then etch primer which will be followed by epoxy primer later.
I'll bolt the wings on tomorrow to make it easier to work on them.
The high build primer is going on very rough / lumpy as the 1.4 cap on the spray gun can't put out sufficient material. As a result (I think) I have rubbed through to the epoxy primer in lots of places so I am going to do another 2 coats. This time though I will thin it so it comes out the gun better and try wet on wet if I can suss out the flash off time. I have had to start blocking it back with P180 initially before going down eventually to P320 as it is so rough so hopefully I can go straight to P600 wet and dry if I thin it this time.
I will have to mix up some epoxy primer for the scuttle panel so will use that for any small areas where I have gone through to bare metal.
Ray - If you going thinner with the primer I would edge to the side of caution and apply 3 coats rather than your planned 2 before sanding back
Pretty sure there is enough high build left to do that. Only managed one coat today so suppose I will have to sand that slightly first or can I apply more tomorrow as it is?

it would be wise to give it a light key which can be undertaken dry rather than wet

Thanks Chris. Just leaving the house now and had a quick look in case you had replied. (no signal where the old cow shed is) Need to totally rub back the windscreen pillar as just after I sprayed primer yesterday I tripped and that was what I grabbed to stop myself falling lol. Wasn't happy.
Spent Sunday morning preparing the panels for more primer, boot, bonnet, 2 doors, front panel, 2 sills, ventilation grill and the filler piece that goes between the rear bumper and the rear panel. Then spent most of the afternoon wasting paint and fighting with an intermittent blockage in the spray gun but got it all done eventually. Think I will need more primer to finish the wings which is a pain. Once that was all done I moved the panels out of the tent, pushed the Mustang back far enough to get the 304 into the tent in preparation for Wednesday (dog sitting Monday and Tuesday) and then because the roof has various leaks I crammed all the panels in to prevent water dripping on them. The remaining panels are inside the car.
Just back from the hospital where I had an ultrasound scan done on my testicles and hoping that the pain and swelling was caused by the shingles I had over the past 3 or so weeks. Back on the car Wednesday and Thursday, Airport run on Friday to bring swmbo home, covid booster and flu jab on Saturday and hopefully out to the car on Sunday
OMG. What a day. One bonnet with a guide coat and then 5 hours later, that's five miserable hours later it is finally rubbed back. I must be doing something wrong. Using P600 wet and dry although for some of it I resorted to Mirka Abranet P320 and then 400 before the wet and dry. Apart from the time factor I can't cope mentally doing the whole car like this.
How often do you change the wet and dry? When you feel it isn't really doing anything (that's all the time really) or after about 1 square foot? I am using a rubber block.
The weather was horrific today and the cow shed was starting to flood.

Ray - For direct to gloss 2 pack finishes paint finishes I sand / block back with P320 - and that's it I don't go any finer - only on solvent based finishes would I go to a finer abrasive but then again I would use a known easier to sand type primer
