Peters Javelin went into the workshop this morning
There's a handful of jobs that he would like to get done whilst he is visiting - so up onto stands it went - The engine oil & filter were changed, along with the gearbox & rear axle oil - problems with the floor mounted headlamp dip switch were resolved & the reversing lamp switch on the gearbox was removed - repaired and refitted and is now working - All the lubrication points were attended to and greased as required
Its nearly six years ago since I restored this car - Peter has covered over 20,000 miles in it since - nice to see that the Dinitrol underbody wax is still doing its job
I recoated the front cross member where some of the wax had deep gouges in it from the misuse of a trolley jack
But I reapplied the cavity wax to the box sections of the chassis and the car is good for the next six years

Other problems were sorted on Peters car yesterday
The windscreen wipers were becoming inefficient to the point that they would only wipe the screen with one blade fitted - I checked the motor and it was fine
I had Peter remove the wiper rack from under the dashboard (not a easy task by any degree)
With rack removed is was dissembled then cleaned of 70 year old hardened grease & debris - then with fresh grease applied rebuilt & refitted
And once refitted they operated so much better - amazing what a little cleaning & fresh grease can achieve

Peter's Javelin has been plagued by a oil leak on the timing case cover - its a complex design which the oil filter also bolts up to but today we finally resolved the issue with the use of a non OE seal which did the job perfectly - quick clean up of the oil that leaked onto the valley of the engine and its another job off the list

Last job on Peters Javelin was to fit an electric fan for him - he's concerned that the car gets hot in summer when back home in Switzerland on the mountain passes - simple fix really
Then this afternoon I went over to Aldershot to appraise this little A35 van on behalf of a client who is considering the purchase of it
Not perfect but a nice patina and right for the money
Vendor was running this Dodge still in its original paint
Along with a very smart Saab
His next door neighbour had a French car collection on the drive - Talbot Alpine which had a Citroen LNA behind it, Citroen GSA with a Citroen C5 behind it
Further up the drive was Citroen DS
Whilst further down the same street was this Mustang - the 3 neighbours had enough classics to start a small museum

A few post Revival jobs on Peter's Javelin before he returns to Switzerland with the car
The centre exhaust bobbin had failed so this was changed for a fresh one
The bonnet release cable is frayed and playing up - I'll get a new one made up but using the original knob to match the choke cable
The original matching numbers engine for the car is going to be rebuilt and I'll arrange to get it to my engine builder - Nothing wrong with the current engine in the car but this is being built has a spare
We then loaded his Javelin to the trailer
Already for the trip back to Switzerland this morning

Very busy weekend - Saturday was the Jowett Car Clubs AGM in Leicester - being a committee member deems that I really ought to be present at such an event - With members travelling from around the country its inevitable that parts change hands and I always end up bringing more back than I take - hence a boot full of Jowett panels for restoration for various members
New custom built water pump for a my own future Jupiter project
And a fully rebuilt / strengthened column gear change again for my own future Jupiter project

Second batch of Lambretta parts painted in silver
Just a small panel to paint in a third colour now
Meanwhile I have this Jowett Javelin engine to deliver to my engine builder in Halifax, West Yorkshire tomorrow
But only after I have delivered this A35 van to a client in Whitby on the North Yorkshire coastline - I then need to return from Halifax via Barnsley in South Yorkshire to deliver / collect a few parts - There's another project going onto the trailer while I'm at Whitby too - but more about that on Friday

Last bit of the Lambretta paint sorted in the third colourway
And its all ready for collection in the morning
Meanwhile on my travels yesterday (Hampshire - Whitby - Halifax - Barnsley - Hampshire) all with a loaded car trailer too ! - I delivered a clients Jowett Javelin engine for rebuild in Halifax but also got to see a new engine that's being rebuilt for one of my own future projects

Part of new scheme that myself & Jowett Car Spares are offering is a exchange panel service - we offer a refurbished panel that has been bare metaled, repaired where required - straightened up & primed - owners supply their old unit and this gets taken into stock & repaired with a general allowance made against it for the repair - any panels requiring additional works in excess of the general allowance or panels that are a outright sale with no exchange unit will be surcharged - I'm starting with this pair of early Javelin front wings
These are now stripped of fittings and ready to go to the blaster - they will require minor repair once done prior to primer
Most Javelin front wings rot out down the rear leading edge - likewise on the rear wings
Meanwhile this Javelin boot lid is with me for repair on behalf of a client
This also has a date with the blasters to remove the rust ingress

Ideally you need someone who can do your running around and delivery's for you, its got to be cheaper than you doing delivery's, I would have thought there's more profit in restoration and paint than driving about. Great idea of the panel exchange scheme though, that must be a boon for the club spares and members, properly repaired panels at a fixed cost.
