Ideally you need someone who can do your running around and delivery's for you, its got to be cheaper than you doing delivery's, I would have thought there's more profit in restoration and paint than driving about. Great idea of the panel exchange scheme though, that must be a boon for the club spares and members, properly repaired panels at a fixed cost.
Yep you're bang right and if I was in the business of making pots of money & charging the £60 - £100 per hour that a lot of restorers do then yes I would have someone do my running around - but I'm sole trading - I don't really do what I do for the profit - I do it because I love what I do - Yes money changes hands - it has to but its way down my list of priorities - I like it like that - no employer hassles - no relying on someone that might not turn up when they should and I like to meet my suppliers now again

No workshop / project updates from me for over a week - Had a week off to sort things around the house etc - however. that doesn't mean that there's been a complete lack of old car based activities
A sneak peek at a recent rehoming project - its only been off the road since 1966 with a water pump problem, 2 owner & 61,000 miles from new with all history - 100% original, very solid & never welded - just working on the best strategy for it - I don't need yet another project (Or do I)

A few bits of new kit arrived at the workshop this morning - Deal done at the NEC show with one of my suppliers that was difficult to resist - Mirka have launched a new air fed narrow nose powerfile - I needed to replace my old cheapo one anyway
150mm Mirka Dual action sander (Electric) - again offered at a largely discounted price - its a piece of kit that sees extensive use in the workshop and will replace the older model that I have

That looks like a nice find?
Its the most original / unmolested / un-welded Javelin that I have ever come across
So, do you keep it as is, in it's 'historical' state or restore it to new. Oh the decisions of life. Bet it's heading for the barn. Unmolested, little work to do compared with some and that number plate gives a clue KTM..keep to myself.
Absolutely no chance - the Subaru drivetrain is probably ideally suited to something like this but it would take a mountain of work and the Jowett gearing on the rear axle is all wrong too so it would effectively leave you going nowhere - add to that its pointless having all the power if you cant stop the car either hence you would end up chopping / splicing the Scuby floor pan / drive train to allow the Javelin bodyshell to drape over it (its been researched & considered on many occasions) - However, with modified conversions now so heavily policed via testing & registration regulations why would I want to give myself that headache - If I want a go fast & look cool there's a huge range of later model classics all perfectly capable of this, finally to rip the originality out of this particular very original car would be nothing but sacrilege in my book but each to their own and all of that

Just a question, I'm thinking about buying one of the cheap air powered ones as your old one for ocasional use. How did it service you? Will 400ltr nett per minute and 150ltr. tank enough to keep it happy? Thom

Thom - You will fine with one the cheaper versions - put a few drops of air tool oil into the air feed every time you use it - you have enough capacity with the compressor rating that you have stated - Has I use mine most of the time the life of them becomes limited - so they tend to only last me 10 - 12 months - If you are just using it occasionally it should last you several years - They are a great piece of kit with them being so compact and the file nose being less than 15mm means that you can access most areas
Did I somewhere see a "new" Range Rover join your fleet? Is there a thread on that?
Sadly although its a older model Range Rover Sport purchased to replace my ageing & very thirsty P38 its not old enough for the BRM Forums 20 year minimum age criteria - keep your eyes on the other social media platform that I occasionally post to
Out of interest Mr Grumpy what started your association/obsession with Jowetts?
Took a Javelin in part exchange on a Jaguar that I sold - In order to obtain parts for the Javelin I had to join the Jowett Car Club (Having previously been a member of multiple other classic car clubs) - I went to one club event with the intention of selling the Javelin on but found the friendliest club members that I had ever come across - add to the fact the cars were built a few towns away from where I was born - I got involved in sorting out the body restoration on another members Jupiter, then another and its not really stopped since - Has you are probably aware I've now become a restoration specialist for the marque alongside being a longstanding committee member, owner of several Jowetts, involved in no end of related projects, club schemes, club events etc - it would be difficult to get out of it now
