So, with the major panel work completed it was on to the modifications.. I had dollied the lip up flat on the front arches to clear the wheels but on the back the inner arches were rotten anyway.. So I chopped off the lips altogether and stretched the outer arches with the hammer and dolly.. I then got some 6mm round bar and tacked it to the arch in place of the lip to give strength to the quarter panel and have something to build the inner arch to.. Again I haven't got many photos of this but what I have I will share π’ Above is a standard arch.. Below is the arch profile after the mods
So I admitted defeat with the rear quarters and had a mate over to help with with some of the filler work as I had become snow blind.. Wasn't until my mate Craig came over and had a look that I realised I was overthinking the whole thing.. And that the imperfections I was seeing with my eyes weren't really there.. He convinced me to let him do a final block down on it.. Half an hour later he come back to me saying :just prime it man it will all block out.. He was right.. I hate letting anyone else work on my stuff but sometimes a fresh pair of eyes is needed.. Anyway once I had the shell in primer I could look at getting the panels ready.. Bonnet needed some repair
Turned out reasonably well for a guy who hasn't painted a car in 5 years and even when I did was never overly happy with the results.. I did get a few runs in it and ended up repainting the wings and one of the rear quarters though.. But overall I'm pleased.. After 5 years it's finally painted.. Now I have to get my Peach in gear and paint that bloody boot lidπ€£
Got a bit done last night.. I'm not going to bother going to bare metal on the bootlid as I have a few spare ones anyway.. Want to start reassembly soon
Got out early yesterday and drank some paint and farted in the boot lids General direction.. Luckily it turned out OK and I didn't need to taunt it a second time
Looking good. How soon before it starts going back together?
Well.. My better half has ordered me a headlining and some of the seals and rubbers for Christmas.. So I hope to get the cavity wax etc done over Christmas and start putting it together sometime in spring.. We just got approved for a a mortgage so house renovation is probably going to take over for a while .
