Ordered some bits for the Dope, because you know when you have one car in bits with the engine missing you should work on the other one too..... (ive got a Renault Twingo mk2 that im currently trying to shoe horn a renault megane 2.0ltr turbo engine into..)
New exhaust parts and pipe ordered up to replace the sieve like box that's on there at the moment, Ill be trying to make one that sits across the back of the car, a longer smoother run with a slightly bigger bore. Im not expecting anything but a nicer noise though may help further down the line if i ever slap a cam in, bump the compression and fit a decent carb.
Next up was some gear selector bushes, or silentblocks as they are called. Back when I built the car I solid mounted the linkage, I'm pikey and it worked..... If I hit a decent bump in the road it will knock it out of gear though, new rear engine mounts and the Rover V8 gearbox mounts have stiffened everything up back there quite abit so I think I need to add some cushion back in to stop this happening. Hopefully if everything turns up in a timely manor that's my next weeks entertainment
I was bored this morning so cracked on with the exhaust, don't criticise too much, it was slapped together with a gasless mig, loads of fun to play with lol. We have gone from the old blowing original dauphine exhaust with a 40mm inlet (i sleeved it to 45mm) and a 1 inch outlet to a full 1.75 inch (45mm) long system. It definitely sounds fruitier, I should slap it back on the dyno and see if its added anything but noise lol defo feels a little better...... Not sure if i like how it looks or anything but it can stay for a while (y)
Another vote for a motorcycle can. I’ve got an aftermarket one from a Yamaha R1 if you want to try it. Yours for the cost of postage.😊
cheers for the offer, might take you up on that.
Some one else mentioned maybe going for the old school devil exhaust look by adding a angled trumpet tip to it..... little nod to the old renault racers
Is its as speed hump voulnerable as it looks it might be??
It has more clearance than it looks to be fair, ill have to get a tape on it and some pics. That said (touch wood) I've not yet clipped a speedbump in my car.
Watch me get it stuck next time im out lol. The car has a surprising amount of clearance considering how low it is to a standard version.
Mike Unlands car, he also built the matt red one one gold wheels, been following the build and his attention to detail is fantastic. Thats goals right there! One of my fav dauphines, that said I like most of the known modded ones for different reasons. Big fan of Adrien Faures one, ratty looking with the bike engine in the back too
