It was the wifes birthday the other day and her best friend has been over from Perth for a few days to celebrate with her. I drove us down to the Nightquarter so they could have cocktails and was rewarded with a VW splitscreen bus. Not sure you'd get away with those window tints in the UK.
A walk down the road to the Surf Club brought me across this very clean XJ6. A bloke saw me taking the photos and asked if I was a Jag fan so I explained about my weird obsession with old cars and forums. He asked where I was from and when I said Chesterfield he told me he'd been to Chester Zoo. I didn't have the heart or the will to explain.
Over the next few days of the wifes celebrations we visited various places along the Sunny Coast and I was fortunate to see a variety of old tin.
First up was this Mustang. I've never been a fan of these but it was good to see it on proper sized wheels rather than some outsize 22" alloys and rubber band tyres. It was also good to see the owner jump in and give it a good rev away as he must've been late 60's early 70's in age.
Down in the Surf Club car park this Moke pulled up in front of me. Had a chat to the owner who seemed chuffed someone else had taken an interest in the car he was so proud of. Said he absolutely loved the thing and got it out whenever he could. Ooh Matron!
Then when we were at the rooftop bar in Maroochydore this old Chevy pulled up at the lights enabling me to get a quick snap from an unusual angle.
At a garage just around the corner (on my way to the brewery as it happens) is this Subaru Leone or maybe a GL. I'm not sure what the difference is between the 2 models. Don't know what it is about these but they certainly pique my interest.
Anyway - ENGAGE THE BEIGE!
Popped up to Noosa where a well worn Land Cruiser was in a back street car park.
It was a lovely day Sunday so we had a couple of hours on the beach at Mooloolaba and called into the Surf Club for a quick snifter on the way home. Glad I did as this 69 Camaro was parked up there.
Went for a stroll down to Mooloolaba last weekend and happened across a few bits of old tin. First up at the lights was this Torana.
Then as I was getting back to Alexandra Headland this big Yank tank came along. Can't say as I know what it was.
Then down in the Surf Club car park this lovely Valiant Estate was parked up. My cup of tea this one.
Probably have to lose the girls bike as I wouldn't want the professors calling me out on it.
Well it's been great sharing all these cracking cars with you but this thread will soon be drawing to a close. The company the wife works for has been part of a US$11bn takeover and it seems her job is surplus to requirements which once it ends we will have 60 days to leave Aus. We're going to try and stick a bit more travel in before we leave so hopefully I'll have a few more additions before the off.
We completed the 1000 odd km drive from the Sunshine Coast back down to Sydney. Did it over 3 days to break it up. The weather was pretty atrocious for most of the trip. I did however get the wife to grab a couple of spots for me.
First up was a Humber Super Snipe. Looked really solid. My last Queensland spot.
Then up was a sorry looking DS. Maybe a good parts car?
Last couple of days has seen us working like Trojans getting the storage sorted and minimised ready for the shipping agents to collect on Thursday. Just got the car to sell then our Australia footprint is virtually gone.

Sad in a way but I hope that you have both enjoyed the Auz experience - Good thing is that you get to come home and play with your motors - downside being that it will almost certainly damp & cold Upt Norfh by the time you get back

I think because we always thought it was a finite amount of time we were having out here in Aus neither of us are sad about returning back to Blighty. Having PR dangled in front of us just before was a bit cruel but like you say cars are waiting for me, Chesterfield FC are (currently) top of the league oh and something about family too 😆 We’re going to drive a camper from Ayers Rock down to Melbourne via Adelaide and hopefully pop over to Tasmania and then we’ve completed all the States on our extended trip here. Should see a bit more old tin on our way too 👍🏻

I will say as someone who lived 4 1/2 years in a much warmer clime with beaches and great restaurants and shopping - while we miss it in February, being near friends, family and home more than makes up for it.

Would you just at what the locals have done for you in your absence A new car museum on your home town door step (There's 2 Jowett's in the collection too - one of which I was instrumental in the museum acquiring)

Well we've left Sydney behind for now. We may get back there at some point before we leave but we heading to Ayers Rock for a few days. Then it was a 6.5hr bus journey to Alice Springs for a night before picking up the camper van. Just across the road was Pedro's car sales with this TR7 in and bonus Subaru Brat action in the background. There was also an old truck parked up just down the road.
