Hi everyone,
I will copy and paste some from another forum, just to get you guys up to date
In Holland there are not many real petrolheads, don't get my wrong there are plenty of young guys who polish there rims and spoilers , and have other people mount there online ordered power gaining exhaust mufler from chinabay, but there are not many people around who realy make stuff, or try something different.
so why this thread ?
Because I like to read how other people build there cars. They take the time to post there stuff, so its some sort of paying back.
We ( I build this car together with one of my beste friends ) are already 5 years in the build, so the first part is going to be a flasback.
were we go:
After I sold my old racecar ( almost 10 years ago ) I haven't been near a track, as I was busy setting up my life and business and nor had the money or time to go racing again. 5 years ago I went to the Historic grandprix of holland, and the vibe came back , harder then before. I realised ( and convinced my wife ) that it was the ultimate way of dealing with the stress of owning a business.
Off course I told my buddy about the great cars I saw and the hammering V8 sound witch just hits you on the chest. Off course he was becoming more and more interessted as I kept talking about racing again. But after a quick search on the internet we both landed back to earth, the good stuff is just not affordable. The fact that Jon was in between jobs didn't help very much.
We raced seven type cars before with bike power, there are great fun but after racing them a couple of years the wow factor seems to slip away, so we wantend to move up a notch. I like the V8 rumble very much, but a sportscar type race with a v8 starts somewhere at 50k so thats a no go.
But what if we make are own sportscar
I had build a car before, so how hard could it be
After numerous evenings searching the NET for ideas, whe came across a UK based company who makes GRP bodies for classic Lola racecars.
As we both hate GRP work, we both agreed that we were going to buy a complete bodykit and make the rest ourself.
Not sure how it exactly went down, but whe settled for a Lola T492 body in black
should end up looking something like this.
After setteling for the T492 body we ordered the body in the UK.
We ordered a black body because whe would like to give it a John Player Special livery
They are made to order so it took about 6 weeks before we recieved note that the body was ready for pickup.
That would mean a small roadtrip !!!!!!!!!
So we rented a van and drove true Belgium to France and on the train, after about one hour driving on the wrong side of the road ( sorry guys ) we found the industrial estate in the middle of now ware.
After finding the owner of the firm we got a small shop tour. If you look at the outside of the shop you wouldn't expect mutch of it, but it turned out there main businnes is making Formula 1 replica's for show use.
As it was at the end of the formula one season so there were multiple cars in differente state of finishing, I was not allowed to take pictures bucause the championship was not decided at the time beeing.
They make the body's using the original moulds, so the were bound by contracts to keep it all secret
But after 2 years it is safe to say that they were making Mercedes replica's
but this is what we came for
The quality looks and feels ok for a racecar, the GRP is not realy thick but we did not want a heavy body, The fitting is "period"
some pics of the body unpacked
Will try to update ASAP
