I've been offline for a while - enjoying a quiet life while running fun but not special cars.
Recently I got told around Easter I need to move out of the mates place I've been staying at & tidying up, so I'm having to move house and will probability lose access to mates garage.
To keep me occupied I keep browsing the local classified as you do, and found something that should take my mind off things over the winter.
Photos tell the story. A local chap bought a matching pair of tired but driving estates, stripped them both without labeling anything (Doh !), did some sanding and left the shell bare hence the surface rust, then let a teenager cut the rusted floor out so he could practice his welding. His plans for the other estate are to cut the roof off to make a pickup for blasting around the farm
We spent a few hours just separating bits so I got a mostly complete car.
Questions so far:
Does anyone have a factory workshop manual and / or factory parts book for sale ?
Are there any manuals online (Hayes, wiring diagram etc?)
What's the firing order ? (the distributor is out, I can time it manually but need to check plugleads)
Oil. Type & quantity for engine & gearbox ?
Are there any decent suppliers for bits?
Parts needed :
front & indicator lenses ( a shame - he had 2 full sets and broke them all when they were in storage)
To do
Fettle brakes. Was told it has all new cylinders & shoes but has no pressure. "It just need bleeding". Hmmm
Welding ! Sills are mainly good but both front floors have been removed, both rear floors have been cut out and badly patched so need redoing, Wings are good but A-posts need patches - access will be a nightmares. The panel below the radiator needs looking at, Most other bits look solid.
Done
Fit engine & gearbox mounts
Fill engine & gearbox oil
Reconnect throttle choke clutch handbrake
Set timing
Get it running
Fix electrics (lights & dash switches now work)
Watch this space for updates
