Hope all goes well for you Chris I know only too well from the last few weeks how something can creep up on you and turn your life upside down Get well soon buddy
Thanks Dan - I take it that you are now back on your feet etc
Yes thanks Chris , just getting back to normal now Keep positive mate you’ll be fine soon hopefully
Dear all - Many thanks for your messages - its much appreciated that when you are rushed through the doors of a strange institution wondering if you will make it to your next intake of breath or not - said institution being even stranger than you could ever predict in the current pandemic situation - so to read a few words of comfort (whilst strictly not being allowed visitors) in a friendly forum environment meant a hell of a lot to me especially when I personally have never even met most of you (but it feels like I have - if that makes any sense) - thankfully a team of dedicated health professionals had me sorted and down the recovery road in a short space of time and I'm now back recovering at home as of this afternoon - In a very big way this place that we call the 'BRM Forum' already very much feels something like home to me even though we are only a few weeks old - normal service / progress on the Jupiter shall resume in the next week or so - I'm behind with my progress reports hence I can bring you up to date in the interim - thanks again - Chris
Excellent news. Take the time to recover fully before you venture back into the workshop. Going back too quickly will only make things worse. Put your feet up, stroke Sid and bring your reports up to date.
Glad you are home Chris. Nothing worse being away from comfortable surroundings when your not well. I'm sure Sid will have a positive mojo for helping you recover. In the meantime take it easy, and watch some things on the Utube, some of the old Fred didnah stuff is always a good watch.

Right enough on this being ill thing lets have some progress
It takes a awful lot of profiling to obtain the correct body profiles on cars of this nature
With so many compound curvatures within the panels its virtually impossible to employ any form of mechanical / machine sanding - it all has be undertaken by hand
Note the use of guide coats - I find a cheap matt black aerosol the easiest / cheapest method for achieving this
The polyester skimming filler is added in fine layers then sanded back before restarting the process
I utilise 3 different types of light weight filler through the process to achieve the results - the first is a general filler to correct the main areas of undulation and is buff in colour
Second is a putty which is quite fine but spreads as easy as margarine and is virtually the same colour
The third is a glaze which is semi liquid - self leveling - can be brushed in to awkward areas such has flange joints etc - this is the green colour that you can see in the images
Very nearly there
Shroud completed and just the rear wing in glaze ready to be sanded back
The glaze can sanded back to a virtually transparent cover should it be required - great for high detail works
So that's all the rear of the car now fully profiled
Glad to see you back on this, don't do too much too quick though, take it easy!
This is work completed before the illness gave me a good kicking - in other words I'm just bringing you all up to date - not physically touched the car for 3 weeks
Glad to hear your chest infection has been sorted by our fantastic NHS, keep warm, keep well, and try not to over do it. No I am not your mum just someone who wants his car done. L.O.L
Amazing work Chris! Hope you are on the mend. it’s threads like this that help us mere mortals to improve our techniques. I’ve got the welding and body/chassis mods Under control but bodywork and paint is a bit of a black art even if I have done a little in the past. I don’t suppose you could expand on the makes of poly products you use? We’ve all heard of David’s Isopon P38 and dolphin glaze but specifics might help some of us that aren’t sure of the better products over the worse ones out there.

Well recovered now thanks - Good call on the polyester fillers and not a problem - I'll take some pics and post the info up this evening but in the 'Body & Paint Thread' which can be found in 'Technical Assistance' section - its probably going to more relevant / accessible there but if there's anything in particular that you need to know please don't hesitate to ask and I'll get back to you - Chris
Whatever restoration I have undertaken over the years has always ends up being worse than was first thought, so I am aware of just how much time and effort you have put into this restoration. It is looking really good, what was it captain Mainwaring used to say. WELL DONE THAT MAN.
