Howdo George. At least I’ll get to see this ramble from the start,

Better fill you in on how it works here during lockdown.

Let's take a little example. George's visa.

This was due to expire on 17 September, so I worded up my lawyer in early August, to get the process started. At the time, Manila was a no-go area and, in addition, due to some nasty little rash, I was grounded. Eventually, I recovered a bit and, more to the point, the Bureau of Immigration opened its doors again.

I paraphrase...

"Why he not come to office to renew?"

"Erm, you were closed and not accepting any visa applications."

"That's not a valid excuse."

"In addition, my client was poorly, here are his medical records and, even worse, some pictures."

"(barf) That's got rid of breakfast, so now we may, or may not, treat it as a renewal, or it may have to be a new application."

So I couldn't get there but it didn't matter, they were closed anyway. Somehow this is all my fault.

At the end of the day, I'll get the visa, but guess which option is more expensive?

And another one. My (Brit) colleague is married to a Filipina and they have a house way up north Luzon. If she were to come here on a day visit, that's fine, she can go straight home. If she stays overnight, it's 14 days quarantine. That perennial question when living here, "Why?"

Anyway, the dash-cam's arrived and I'm pretty pleased with it. Let's see how it records when I mow a couple of cyclists down, come Sunday.

A work colleague was told he had to have a covid test before he could make a gp appointment....you couldnt make it up.

Hi George - Whilst you are not in third world country I would imagine that's its a game of roulette out there with the hospital thing at the best of times let alone with the current pandemic situation on board - although scary at the time I was very reassured with what I witnessed for myself on a very recent (last week) hospitalisation here in Blighty - you cant directly access the doors of A&E - instead there's an external triage screening via a temporary sited portacabin / one way system where you are triaged for your illness / injury whilst also being initially screened for covid - any suspected covid cases are then taken off via a different route to a separate area of the hospital - main triage / booking area for A&E was policed by 2 members of security - and once admitted the assessment & treatment ward of A&E was also policed by a further 2 members of security - once I was admitted to a ward upstairs you could not get through or out of the doors of it unless you were either staff and card swiped yourself in / out - or if you were a patient you were bar scanned in on your wristband - again 2 members of security on each ward door - you were also bar scanned on every observational check for blood pressure / temperature / heart rate / oxygen saturation levels (mine were every 2 hours) - hence they knew were everybody was at anyone time in order to prevent covid cross infection - regardless of what you read / hear from the media they very much have it nailed over here (well at Basingstoke at least) - I cant imagine that the same protocols are not deployed throughout the entire NHS
