I used GT85 as it's a proper penetrating oil apparently. Almost a full can emptied over the piston crowns so it was swimming in the stuff. I'd hoped after a few days it may have bled down a bit but nope...just still sat there! I'll give Coke a go, if it doesn't work at least I'll have something to drink.
Water sounds odd, but if it works it works. Shame these didn't just unbolt, there was about half a litre of water on top of each piston when I stripped the head off!
The pistons are in a way sacrificial, as I'm getting some +60 thou higher compression ones for the rebuild so if I need to get medieval on them as a last resort I will.
Great news, a few hours of hard work, swearing and hitting things with hammers and all 6 pistons are out! The block is now completely stripped and ready to go for dipping, cold stitching the crack, a light skim on the head surface and a +60 overbore.
I'm not sure if one place can do all that, or if I'll need to get it dipped first then sent off for the repair and machine work. Still, it's good progress!
