This is my money pit. Had it for about 19 years after buying it from P&L Minis near Rotherham. It was an interesting blast back down the M1 to Chesterfield as the steering rack U bolts were loose so it's fair to say it 'wandered' a little. Then I got it home and reversed it up the driveway. The then wife came home about 15 minutes later and reversed her car up the driveway straight into the Mini. Had it about 45 minutes at that point. Well pleased I was not!
Anyroad, got it fixed and drove it as it was for a couple of years. It was a nippy little thing with a flowed head, high lift rockers, LCB and Ramair filter. Too much spirited driving led to the clutch slipping and me discovering the 16vMini forum. That's where the slippery slope started. I was torn between a R1 motorbike engine or a small block Vauxhall. Vauxhall won the day.
It's a C16XE on 45mm Jenveys that go through a Martin Bowyer inlet manifold. There a MBE967EF in there running the fuel and spark. It's got Mini SPares 4 pot alloy calipers with vented discs under 10" GB alloys.
As you may be able to see I also converted a LH tank into a RH tank so it's upped the capacity by 5 1/2 gallons. It's not been all plain sailing though, in fact far from it. A persistent wiring niggle would see it not starting after the engine had got warm. Now wiring is definitely up there on my list of things i'm even half decent at so I figured it was something I had done rather than anything to do with the professional engine loom I'd bought. Anyway just before I came out here to Oz I think I finally discovered it was the aircraft style bulkhead connector. Fingers crossed i'm right and when I return from here I can get lots of use out of it as I absolutely love this car.
Here's a little video of it running.
