Recently trekked up to North Yorkshire to collect this
Then transport it back down country to the workshop
First job was to sort the trailer lights on the offside that were playing up
New earth's resolved the issue of the indicator attempting to light every other bulb in the cluster
Inside the trailer is this extraordinary rare Jowett
Jowett commenced production in 1910 and this particular vehicle is the worlds oldest surviving model - it's one of only 2 that survive of its type
It comes from an age of motoring long before any of us were born - Lots of very unusual methods of operation that we would consider alien to anything that we have ever driven - I'll post some detail / further pics up once I've completed the work - Its not with me for long
The car is multiple award / concours winning but it was last painted a quite a few decades ago - it now has creeping paint defects on the front wings that the owner has entrusted me to sort
Not so obvious until you start looking and the more you look - the more you find
So wings off - A simple few bolts retain them
Initially I was only undertaking the front wings but after inspection of the rears and a quick call to the owner it was decided to sort all 4 of them - the rears are not has bad as the front but they are just starting to creep
So what will I find
Well the panels have been painted several times but the main issue is that someone (prior to current ownership of the last 3 decades) has painted over untreated rust
And its everywhere
Normally I would just send the wings to my shot blaster - But he's currently heavily committed and cant do them until next week
Bearing in mind that the car needs to be on a show stand at the UK's largest classic car show in a little over a weeks time I just don't have the luxury of time - Hence the paint stripper was put into action
Some time later after a few sessions with the stripper followed by some P80's discs on the DA and the rotary wire brush
Much better
Any areas previously affected with rust was treated with Bilt Hambers Hydrate 80
And left to cure overnight
More later
