Hello to all, there are some great projects on here so I thought I’d sign up and share mine.
It's a 1999 3.4l Carrera (often referred to as C2), manual, coupe that I bought in July 2020 with a very comprehensive service history, but a reasonable list of things that needed doing. It’s a relatively basic early car, so cable throttle, no traction control, it sits on M030 sport suspension, and later 997 Carrera iii wheels (same sizes but slightly different offsets).
I was keen to get a car that hadn’t sat idle and accumulated problems, and this had dome ~1k miles/yr for the 8yrs before bought it, with plenty spent in that time. I’ve done 8k miles in it over the last 16months, and it seems that the increased used has reared some problems. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised as it’s a 22 year old car!
I’ll summarise what I’ve done below then add the detail over the next couple of weeks. Unfortunately I’ve not had time to do everything myself, but have done a reasonable amount of it.
Here’s a summary of the maintenance and repairs since I’ve had it:
- replaced front radiators
- replaced front inner track rods, tuning forks, top mounts and bump stops
- changed the brake fluid
- replaced rear track control arms
- replaced engine mounts
- replaced earth cable and Y cable (starter/alternator/battery post) on engine
- replaced the air oil separator AOS bellow, and subsequently whole AOS when gearbox was out and access better (preventative)
- replaced 1 non-functioning remote key
- replaced broken NSF headlight tray
- replaced the alternator, headlight switch, and blown bulbs (after regulator packed up and I persevered when I should have got recovered)
- replaced front tyres (60% worn, but 1 punctured)
- major service inc spark plugs (well 5 of them, more on that later)
- replaced rear tyres (worn out)
- replaced sun visor mirror assemblies (covers missing - not essential)
- replaced discs, pads, and handbrake shoes.
- removed stuck spark plug
- drill out and replace exhaust manifold bolts
- gearbox rebuild - ongoing
And modifications:
- RRS semi solid engine mounts
- Alex (from 911uk forum) short throw shifter, and BuiltByBasil knob.
- Centre console delete
- 3 spoke steering wheel
- 997 sport hard back drivers seat.
- 5mm Spacers on the front (to correct offset from 997 wheels)
