Vanden Plas - and station wagon - two of my favourite things.
This would definitely have me reaching for my piggy bank.
Not at all a common sight when the car was a current model but real hen's teeth now. Stunning too!
There were only 3 estate car versions of the 4 Litre R, 2 were Radford conversions from saloon and the only genuine one was a special commission from the Queen. It was in service with the royal family until 1969, there were rumours that it had been accident damaged and nothing heard of it since.
pretty much identical to the very first car i drove at the age of 7 or 8 , except my grans had alloys (cosmic i think) and a full length white webastard sunroof.

Fantastic little cars, would love to have a Cooperised version, and how many would have had the full length folding roof? Unfortunately my fondness for minis has always been tempered by practicality, I don't fit into them very well. I put a set of bargain (Beaulieu autojumble) Cosmic alloys on my first XJ6 in '84 - got a lot of comments about how good they looked.
Now the question is has this been posted to test me ? - It will certainly test the rest of you as this is a pre production vehicle of only which 3 examples exist

You were giving some thought a while back to buying an interesting small van / advertising vehicle to help with your business, Marina & Polo featured among your 'perhaps' list. I bet you'd have given your eye teeth to get your hands on the van version!

Too right I would so those that are unaware this is pre production Jowett Bradford CD - planned mid 1950's replacement for the ageing Jowett Bradford van - this could be readily made to be a run-around for the business - sadly there is one example surviving in the UK that is under long term restoration and 2 survivors out in New Zealand - chances on me ever obtaining one is pretty remote - in styling the pick up version looked far better than the van
