I needed paintwork on my Transporter, I was advised to get it scanned and purchase a 1/4 litre of base coat. They scanned it and said usually they get a 1 or 2 indicating a very good close match but they never see a zero. This time they had a zero and it was a Nissan white! On a VW Transporter! Bloody clever stuff.
I take it that the colour was a swerve ball then Chris?
Pete - Very much so - I'm just going to have to do the best that I can - maybe have to do a blend out onto the front side panels of the bonnet to get a match to the doors - will have to see once I get some paint on it tomorrow
Looking good Chris, bet the compact dimensions make painting this a less physical job than is usually the case.
It makes a change - I usually like just one vehicle in the workshop when I'm painting - but sometimes you just have to juggle - cant wait to get the extension built over the next year

I don't like having loose painted panels hanging around - best place for them is back on the vehicle
Hence the doors getting rehung
Wiring harness threaded back through to the rear of the car
And the rear lights etc all reconnected
Whilst in the boot the fuel tank was refitted
I then separated all the new parts into small piles for each section of the car to save having to just rummage through the box of random parts
All the brake stuff went in a sperate box
Replaced all the coolant hoses along with the fuel hoses with ethanol resistant spec hoses
All new clips at the same time - but blimey Triumph really knew how to keep the fuel hose / fuel pipe industry in business - 7 small sections of rubber fuel hose - 3 lengths of plastic & 1 length of steel plus 13 hose clips
All of the hoses were well perished - its something that a lot of owners don't take into account when recommissioning a car
New water pump fitted along with a new fan belt, thermostat & temperature sender unit
Some of the rear chrome trim could be refitted
And the new nearside front quarter valance was refitted - I have left the lens off the lamp for now now until I check the operation - lots more little odds done / refitted along the way - more progress updates later

Latest progress
Main fuel feed pipe that runs down the side the chassis
Unsure how this has managed to hold fuel
New section made up in copper - rearmost section is plastic & can be reused
Connected to the supply from the tank but with the addition of a inline fuel filter
I had already cleaned the chassis rails off of any loose underseal / rust etc - but now had a scrape around the rear underside of the car then a good blow off with the airline
Brake pipes are a mixture - some have been replaced whilst others are still the factory originals - steel & very rusty - initially I had just planned to replace the old steel ones - then I noticed a weep from one of the replaced ones - flared flange end completely fractured (overtightening) - at this point I checked the rest and found another 2 in a similar condition - hence I have since replaced the lot
New fuel & brake lines fitted & clipped up
Floorpans & chassis will be treated with Dinitrol underbody wax
Brake & clutch master cylinders are getting replaced
Radiator was washed through, dried & cleaned up
Its since had a coat of paint and is ready for refitting in the morning
Sound deadening fitted to the new floorpans and the wiring harness taped down
Sound deadening is self adhesive - a quick drape over the radiator for a few mins ensures that it follows the floorpan swages easily

Some running about to do today so I didn't get a full day in
But I did manage a full rebuild on on the rear brakes - new adjuster, wheel cylinder, shoes, springs & retaining pins - the new hard line from the flexible brake pipe back up to the wheel cylinder was also fitted
Followed by a new brake drum
Both sides done
Rear section of the handbrake cable is another story - I couldn't get it to adjust but then noticed that it was frayed & nesting against one of the cable guides - new cable is on order
Also managed to replace the disc, caliper & pads on the nearside front
And the radiator is now fitted & plumbed in - more tomorrow
its looking good Chris, you're making it look far too easy though 😂
I like the colour, is it mallard green?
Ivan - Answer is I don't know on the colour front we couldn't obtain a direct match even with the help of a spectrometer - I tend to think its a bucket special last time it was painted i.e. several odd tins of paint tipped into one can and mixed and it is what it is - ended up tinting a Ford colour formula with a little yellow - its not perfect but its not bad either
Looks a bit greener (less blue) than Mallard but I'm sure that was what they had in mind with the colour change all those years ago - and got reasonably close; it's a lovely colour and progress looks to be coming along nicely too! 👍

Yeah that sounds reasonable. Couldn't get the original paint so mixed something up to get close. Its a good strong colour and will look really good against the chrome
