Looks lovely! Only missing an pre-war fuel pump outside ;-) I'm trying to find a 60's Tokheim for outside my garage but people are asking ridiculous money for them. Was just too late on an affordable one two weeks ago. ggrrr. Thom
The top doors would be ideal for a 'grumpy brand' logo, in a proper sign written font, bit of gold leaf etc. Jim at seven9signs does a good job. He did caffeine and machine amongst others, and he loves abit of gold leaf.

I've very recently (last week) had to renew my motor trade policy - my usual broker has been messing me around and I had it on good authority that underwriters were getting very picky about who they wanted to cover - I received some top advice thanks to a good contact that I made a few years ago when I painted his Porsche 996 - I gave him plenty of notice and he did the legwork in order to find me suitable cover
Its come at some cost though - Despite a clean claims history my premium has doubled and the insurer has insisted on several conditions - one of them is that all my previous fire extinguishers have to be upgraded
I have to put vehicle keys in a key safe too and have an electrical inspection undertaken and that's before the security locks are upgraded on the workshop - it was quite secure before but now its like Fort Knox
And next year it will carry on again. I'm sure that some of these assessors just make work for their colleagues. I have to deal with an electrical inspection every 4 years and the fire extinguishers serviced/inspected annually. Anything over 10 years old is replaced whether serviceable or not (not my choice, but there it is), I give the old ones away to people with the proviso that they are 'past their sell by date, not to be relied on, but better than nothing!!'. Anything unwanted goes to the scrappy but it's an expensive do.

Sadly a certain neighbour has been wasting the precious resources of our local authorities planning department yet again by submitting a further 3 complaints that I'm in breach of my planning conditions that my workshop is subject to - Sadly for them I'm not in breach of anything and all 3 complaints were dismissed by the Senior Planning Enforcement Officer Needless to say I'm getting somewhat irritated by them wasting my time every time I have to defend myself with such pettiness (we are well into double figures with the complaints) - Its pretty obvious that the said neighbour would shut me down given the slightest opportunity - The good news is that I'll never be giving them that opportunity However, I will start to invoice them any consequential losses in future when they submit the next complaint(s) that wastes my time - I'll get off my soapbox then - apologies for clogging up the forum but I appreciate the support that I receive from the readers of BRM and I know that you all like to be kept up to date with the circumstances - Said neighbour also reads the forum hence they are also now aware of my future intentions

Sorry to hear. Though it is worth noting that Time wounds all heals - and every time a complaint gets made - and dismissed, your credibility goes up and your neighbour's goes down until no one respects them and they have painted themselves into a corner.
sucks but I have had more than one occasion in my life where someone has tried to accuse me only to scupper themselves.
I think that the persons involved should think VERY carefully about any future vendetta and the fact that they will put you, by their continued anti social behaviour, in an even stronger position to take legal action for, a variety of privacy incursions, harassment, loss of income, mental anguish, intimidation and stalking are just a few that come to mind. No doubt that if I delve a little deeper, we can come up with enough to keep the County Court busy for even longer and the restitution from your neighbours would be considerable. The Courts really don't like this sort of thing and take a rather dim view of it. The next thing to do is simply report this to your local police. They also take a dim view of it.
I've been collecting the odd bit of enamel signage when I can purchase it at the right money but its one of those markets that has gone bonkers - people pay stupid money for it now
But now & again I get lucky - I secure it to the front of the workshop with tamper proof fixings
Its not all garage / motor related - but I find it appealing enough to collect
Latest addition is this double sided 'Temple Motor Oil' sign - its quite rare and I've been looking for some time to secure one at sensible money - it sort fits in with our property address 'The Old Chapel' - I have a few more in the collection to sort & clean yet
I love old signs and I'm intrigued by the 'Wood Milne' one. I think it must be from the shoe repair industry at a time when everyone had shoes repaired. My Dad was a shoe repairer and had signs and posters from the rubber companies in his shop. Usually Dunlop, Goodyear and one not associated with tyres, Phillips.
I suspect your sign isn't from UK, maybe the states as I've never seen one before.

'Wood Milne' were established in 1896 in Lancashire - they specialised in rubber shoe & boot heels, drive belts, golf ball materials along with both solid banded tyres & pneumatic tyres & inner tubes for vehicles
In 1924 they were acquired by 'The British Goodrich Rubber Co' (A subsidiary of the US based Goodrich brand)
That's a lot older than I thought, Dad had his shop in the 50's I saw an old Michelin tyre sign in our local brocante. It was quite rust and I estimated 10-20€. He calmly said it was 100€ Maybe it's the going rate now.

Workshop delousing - Its very difficult when you use the same work area for painting that you use for fabrication / welding / grinding due to the dust generated hence every few months and certainly before undertaking any major paintwork I always delouse the workshop
Given the choice / room I would have a separate enclosed work area / booth for painting in - but that's not to be - I only paint 2 - 3 vehicles per year so it is what it is - On with the extractor fan & dust mask then - I use the air line / blow gun to relieve all loose dust of its hiding places - you'll be amazed has to how much there is
The walls & ceiling are getting somewhat scruffy and its time that the workshop received a refresh
Spot the difference
One side of the ceiling & walls nearly done - lots more to get completed today
Next few jobs into the workshop are primarily preparation / paint & trim - hence I'm keen to get the workshop sorted before the projects enter (already forming an orderly queue)

i dont mind painting cars but painting walls and ceilings is about as low as you can get on the to-do list as i can make it. its one thing i always make a mess of and a mess everywhere else too
