Fuel system
Well I've certainly dropped the ball with the Morris, hardly touched it all year
Plenty of excuses and reasons, but thanks to gtviva for giving me a nudge to dust it off and get back on with it.
One of the reasons for ball dropping, was the fuel system was next on the to-do list, and it was previously leaking, and I don't like fuel leaks.
The Traveller has these two storage areas, the one on the right, now has the air compressor in it.
But there is also a drain for the fuel tank here.
The tank is a NOS one, and the drain tap was missing, and an awkward imperial fitting at that.
I managed to install a little quarter turn valve that exits under the car - tick.
The other compartment originally housed an SU fuel pump.
I've got no time for things like points on fuel pumps, so it was previously replaced with a Facet with an in-line filter.
I had leaks in this area, but I found the main braided hose was the issue.
Trimming and fitting the rubber caps to this style of fuel hose is such a PITA.
There is a power point on the left - just for future proofing really.
The carb is a SU HS6. I forget what it was off.
I bought a rebuild kit before Christmas !! But finally got round to fitting it, and cleaning up the carb.
I'm probably going to paint the carb, so wire brushing, and a dip in the ultrasonic tank is enough for now.
I installed a couple of 1/8 NPT grub screws to blank off the fitting for the engine breather and the vacuum for the dizzy, neither are needed.
There is an ali plate between the air-filter and the carb, this is temporary, but gives me something to attach cables and springs too, until I can get it shaken down, and finalised.
I had to weld a small piece to the linkage to hold the return spring.
Something isn't quite right though, the adjustment screw in the bottom right doesn't really contact the quadrant.
Might just need a longer screw.
That screw is battered and bent, but if there is anything else I've missed please shout up, this is my first foray messing with SU carbs.
But the observant might have spotted fuel in the Filter King.
I've put 6L into the tank, and I don't have any leaks - whoo hoo.
The cables still need shortening to look tidy, but for now I'm just trying to get everything in place for an engine start.
Thanks for looking.
