Front Bench seat part 5

Seems a front armrest is made out of all upholstery components possible.



Complete attention to details sees it going back together though.



The rear upstand of the seat had no design to it, apart from an ashtray - those were the days.
I asked the team at GrumpyTowers to come up with a design more befitting of the car, and less BMC cost cutting.
This is what I got - very happy.



Seat base looks pretty much complete in this shot.
Little pockets for seat belt stalks were a late addition to the project. 
Hopefully that didn't cause too much of a rework.



Backrest is being built up. I asked for original style materials wherever possible, rather than modern foams.



I'll leave it there, as the final reveal isn't far away

The teasing can stop. I've thrown the completed seat into the Morris.

Looking great IMHO



But it gets better.... armrest 



Still a work in progress, but I can see how it is going to inter grate with the parcel shelf, and the rest of the interior.
Gearknob is due for a change, now the interior is darker.
I might leave the door panels in plain ali, or they might get trimmed in the matching vinyl, undecided yet



The previously plain back section has been brilliantly redesigned by the team at GrumpyTowers.




Rear seat will get colour matched at some point, rather than re-trimmed.

Its not quite over yet though. I'm a bit short on headroom, and legroom with this seat. So there is going to be a major rework or the mounting brackets.
Might have to tweak some of the foam too.
My car never came with a bench, so the body mounts may be different, and I might be a bit taller than 1950's man - but it'll get sorted.

Boost gauge

I wanted a boost gauge to monitor the supercharger I've fitted to my Morris.
I also wanted it to match the Riley 1.5 gauges I've fitted, 
This is what I've got now.



The crackle black paint job, means it is pretty subtle from the outside.


But it wasn't that easy, There are many many hours in that gauge. Because it started off like this.



Painting the back in crackle black was straightforward, but getting a nickel finish on the bezel was more tricky.
I could have sent it out to a plater, but where is the fun in that when you can buy a kit to do it at home.




The face was more difficult.
I bullied a mate, who is a watch maker to help, he drew out the graphics, matching the font from the Riley gauges by drawing the individual numerals.
I also got an aerosol of matched grey paint.
The original plan was to get the graphics cut as a waterslide transfer. But we couldn't get them cut to our satisfaction.
Then I hit upon the idea of 3D printing the whole face, with the numerals in relief, so I could fill them with paint.



That is straight off the printer, and it needed some sanding and clean up before being primered and painted.
I had bought a spare rev counter to get the central detail, and a spare hand to join with the original needle.

I'm no model maker, but I'm stubborn, with a magnifying glass, some Humbrol grey paint, and a very small brush, I was able to paint the numerals.



So happy to get this one ticked off, as it has taken almost a year as a background project to get this done.
